My interior mirror broke on my 2003 ls. I want to replace it with one that has a compass, temp and is auto dimming. Does anyone out there know where the external temp sensor is located. thank you.

if u didnt have a compas/temp on ur stock mirror u wont have any sensors. All that stuff is in ur wireing harness which controlls everything in ur truck. If it wasnt set up 4 it u dont have it and cant get it. the aftermarket mirror will come with a sensor that u can put on 1 of the fins above ur front bumper. Clay

What's throwing me is that the truck is prewired. The wire for the dimming, compass, etc is under the plastic housing on top. I had a 98 ls and it had a separate temp sensor for the thermometer. The hardest part was removing whatever was left of the old mirror. Thanks a lot.

Finished the project. All works well. Found the replacement mirror on e-bay (approx $20), bought the mirror wiring harness from mitsu dealer for $18.00, and also had to purchase a temp sensor from Mitsu again, for $50.00. The rest is easy. Truck is prewired. Remove upper console and plug in mirror wire, remove front grill. Looking down at opening, there is a plug on the right side. This is the connector for the sensor. The only problem was that I broke two clips that hold on the grill. Hung mirror up, turned car on and it worked. No problem. The best part I like is the self dimming feature.

Sorry, didn't take any pics. Will do so next time. And by upper console I was referring to the one on the top. The same one that holds the clock and interior lights. Only six screws hold it in place.

thanks for the info. just out of curiosity . . . was the mirror you bought specifically for the montero sport? was it a factory mitsubishi mirror? i'm VERY interested in doing this myself if it's as easy as you say. please let me know as many details as you can (part numbers, brands, etc.). thanks again.

I have a 2003 MS. The truck is prewired. It was al a matter of plugging everything in. Again, the mirror came from another sport. If you get a mirror that has the wiring harness attached, then all yo need to get is the temp sensor. And once the front grill came off, all I had to do was attach the sensor and plug it into the plug on the drivers side. Now all you have to do is reattach the grill. Possibly maybe even calibrate the compass. Compared rewiring, this was a snap.

i just bought the mirror off of ebay from another MS. what i cant seem to figure out is how to remove the old mirror to put on the new one. the new one has a bit of a different mount which i think is just cosmetic and the metal clip probably plugs right into the one on the windshield. i just cant figure out how to slide the old one out. can you let me know how you pulled your stock mirror out? and do you by chance still have the part numbers for the harness and the sensor? my harness was cutoff i still have half of it but need the other end i guess.
Thanks in advanced
