A 255/85 16 is roughly 33.2" tall, 10" wide. A 285/75 is 32.8" tall, but 11.3" wide (those sizes based on the Cooper Discoverer S/T that I am running.)
I have not heard of anyone successfully running the 285s without body lift in addition to suspension (and I won't promise that even then they won't rub.)

LiftedSport, im thinking of running 33x12.5's ith a 3 inch suspension and1inch body lift, will i have major rubbing issues, im also keen to run 9" wide rim with a fair amount of negative offset.. how did you get your 4 inch lift?

You will want to consider your use when determining who much of a problem the rubbing will be.
If the lift and larger tires are mostly cosmetic, then it may not be too much trouble, same with some off-road conditions.
For others, such as rock crawling, any rubbing can be a big problem and limit your capabilities.

depends if you are getting a "True" 12.5 wide tire. for example even though my tires say 11.50 wide they are accually 12.50 with the side lugs. i got 2 inchs from my OME lift and a 2 inch body Lift.

yeah that is true LiftedSport. im keen on Cooper STT's. like all lifs it is somewhat for cosmtic reasons but the width im chasing is beacause i do a lot of dune and beach track running and lift will obviously enable me tofit he tyres but also when im in the mud i wot have the sickening feeling on theash plate and everything else hittin the ground.
Bdmontero, is your truck coil or leaf in the rear? mine being an 03i think it may be hard to find some3" lifted coils

Its leafs in the rear. I bought some leafs for the full size montero instead and it gave me over 3 inches in the rear. and I shaved my bumstops and got 3 inches up front now.

most likely yes. But dont shave them a whole bunch cause they are there for a reason. I plan on buying an arb bar soon and will have to get some coil-overs I found for the front.
