The problem of near over heating when stationary or in heavy traffic has been bugging my Monty for quite a while now.....already replaced the fan and relay and still fan won't come on automatically every time the compressor kicks in......it only spuns once the first time you turn on the A/C, then after that it wouldn't come on anymore......on the relay socket, I have steady voltage on 1 leg and another 12v on the other leg every time ignition key is on.....but still no luck......anymore inputs or things I might have missed checking?.......now, considering of hot wiring the fan, any ideas?

Hmm. I've heard of a similar problem on here recently. I'll dig and see what I find:)

My aux fan worked intermittently shortly before going down hard. I noticed my A/C was acting up and then realized the fan wasn't cycling on and off with the A/C clutch as it always had. It wasn't long after that and it died. I run my A/C all the time so most likely the brushes finally went away.

Forgive my ignorance, but what does the fan actually do? My AC will stop cooling when it's heavily used on hot days, so I'm wondering if my aux fan stopped working as well.

The fan is a backup for the clutch type fan on the engine. It pulls extra air when needed. Especially for the AC

^^^what he said. Sitting still with the a/c on there's not enough air across the condenser, pressures in the a/c system rise and the limit switch kicks the a/c clutch off. I replaced mine with one off Amazon.

Do you still have a link to the fan on Amazon?

the problem with mine is that it's not really the fan, i had the fan replaced but still does the same thing.....it's just that no voltage will come across all the way to the fan connector after the initial run.....my brain is running out of juice on this.....lol!

Sounds dumb, but if the relay is getting power and the leads are switching over to hot when the clutch kicks on there must be a bad wire running from relay to the fan...or there is a pinched wire? I can't think why else it would be good at the relay but not at the fan.

The OCiness in me kicked in again at around 6pm today and found myself tinkering on the fan circuit again......got the ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature)Sensor I ordered from eBay about a month ago and replaced the one in my Monty.....I never planned on doing so since resistance tests I did when engine is cold and hot was within the expected ohm value....but nevertheless since I already have that new part on hand, gave it a chance....guess what?......turned engine on and AC on full blast, fan worked initially then stopped as the compressor cycled....crossed my fingers & prayed......voila!.....as soon as the temp gauge needle neared the center, the auxiliary fan kicked in.....and behaved as normally as ever, never had I seen it to work that way since I got the truck from somebody else.....probably same overheating reason why he had to replace the radiator just weeks before I got it.......what a big sigh of relief and victory on my part.....so nice to fix things by your own hands, a shop was charging me $65 just to do diagnostics alone whilst I bought the ECT from ebay for just $6 bucks.....:-)
