Ive been looking into this lately trying to figure out what would be involved in swapping in a reflashable ecu out of a 2001+ eclipse. At the very least you could probably swap over heads with all the sensors and an engine harness. Hopefully something out there is a little simpler

Ive been looking into this lately trying to figure out what would be involved in swapping in a reflashable ecu out of a 2001+ eclipse. At the very least you could probably swap over heads with all the sensors and an engine harness. Hopefully something out there is a little simpler It would help if you said what vehicle you were thinking of swapping the PCM into. First, its not just the PCM, its also the security module. The easiest way is to get a matched pair from the donor vehicle. Second, newer Sport PCMs are already flashable. Even some of the late late '99 models are. So, if you have a '00-'05 there's nothing for you to do. The only years where they ABSOLUTELY ARE NOT flashable is '97, '98 and most '99s. The problem is there's no code for a Sport PCM. Yes, there is something simpler - get a hold of Boomslang and buy an adapter harness. Easier than replacing all the wiring. AFAIK, all engine sensors between the 24v 3.0L SOHC Sport and Eclipse are the same - its the same engine. They never put the 3.5L in an Eclipse. If you put a 3.5L on 3.0L PCM you'll have issues. I don't know what transmission the Eclipses use, but the PCM is integrated engine/transmission - there is no separate TCU anymore. So, if the transmissions are not EXACTLY the same - swapping PCMs won't work at all. If you really want something programmable - get a Megasquirt. Edward

I know this is a very old thread. But it seems like if the ecu is flashable, using evoscan should work. Looking over the engine I noticed that the MAF and the MAP sensors look interchangeable with the EVO. I tune my 1999 VR-4 using evoscan and chrome flashed ECU. All I had to do was put an EVO 9 MAF (or Montero MAF believe it or not) on and the EVO X map sensor since it fits with no modification. Then you can use evoscan to adjust everything. On a positive note, it makes everything look stock. My VR-4 looks completely stock aside from the y-pipe but it has 418 awhp on a fairly conservstive tune. Love it!

Wish I knew more about this stuff. I'm great with vehicle wiring and electronics. Just not the ecu programming etc. I've never messed with mine m. Just basic intake exhaust changes thus far for me

Wish I knew more about this stuff. I'm great with vehicle wiring and electronics. Just not the ecu programming etc. I've never messed with mine m. Just basic intake exhaust changes thus far for me All we did is save the original settings or "code" from the stock ecu. Then when we flashed it with chrome, we loaded the stock settings back on as a functional baseline. Then we simply adjusted things from there with 3rd gear pulls at wide open throttle. We programmed the check engine light to illuminate when knock was detected. So if we got knock at at any point, we backed off, found out where we got knock, adjusted fuel and timing, and repeated until there was a solid pull from 2,000 rpm to redline. Again, erd gear WOT. Then we increased boost 1 to 2 lbs and repeated the process.
