think, I will just order a new shifter... $45 + shipping for bushing plus labor from my local press shop.. might as well start brand new, now to find $200 to buy it.

Why don't you fabricate one?

When I tore mine apart and found it to look exactly like that on my 5speed it was a nightmare. I only had a day or two to work on my vehicle and so had to rush order the only remaining 4wd selector in the country from Georgia overnight THAT was an expensive fix. Didn't really have time to mess around with fabbing something up. But in the future I will obviously need to do just that since the parts for our trucks are becoming very limited.

My sport is having the same problem. Can anyone confirm if the part from eBay works? Or is it OK just to remove what's left of the ball and run without it?

The part from eBay works. I just replaced mine maybe 2mo ago. It is working fine. It cost me total US$ 52.00. Good luck! A

Isn't there some kind of pin that holds the ball onto the bottom of the shifter handle? How do you get the new ball on there?

Do I need to take the shifter to a machine shop to get the new ball on? Anyone?

In this thread there is a right up on how to get all parts out. I did all that and then took it to a shop to just replace the bushing. Pretty inexpensive and then I put all back in place.

So from what I was able to gather you need to hammer the **** out if the pin to get it out and then go to a machine shop to have it pressed back in. Do I need just the red ball or the white plastic sleeve as well?

Do I need just the red ball or the white plastic sleeve as well? Did you ever find out if you need the plastic sleeve? My MS has been having issues getting into anything other than AWD since I bought it. Took it apart and found it to be the exact same issue you guys have had. Going to try the eBay part and I'll let you guys know if it fixes it. I decided to button mine back up without the ball after I cleared out the majority of the debris from the disintegrated ball, but now it appears to be stuck in 4hi and I can't get it back in AWD. I was sure to keep the pin on the correct side, but still having issues. My worry is that the debris I dislodged may have snuck itself somewhere lower in the t-case and is blocking the forks from moving. Did any of you guys have this issue? Cheers! Eric

I just grabbed one out of a junkyard. It was cheaper to get the whole thing anyway.
