I just bought this vehicle and noticed it has a ring bolted to the back bumper. I was told I needed to swap this out for a plate hitch to bolt to back face of bumper. Are these reliable hitches or should I go with the traditional under the frame hitch? I was looking at the Draw-Tite 75075 since it bolts to the side and bottom of frame.
Thoughts?
Thanks Jim

A Montero Sport? Or did you buy a Montero? Montero Sports are NOT Monteros with a different trim package. Their different vehicles. Like a Toy 4-Runner and the Land Cruiser.
I've never seen a Montero Sport with a plate mount on the bumper. We don't really HAVE a rear bumper. It's a plastic fascia that covers a sheet metal thing that more or less bolts to the body. The only option is an under body frame mount hitch like the Hidden Hitch that I use.

I was told it was a sport. It has LS next to "montero" on the front fender next to door. It does not say "sport" anywhere on truck. When I Google Montero Sport LS a bunch of things come up. How can I tell what I have?

If it says Montero LS, you have a Montero. The Sport's big brother. Go here www.4x4extremesports.com and take a look at the pictures. These are all Montero Sports. The Montero LS is the rough equivalent of the Montero Sport LS as far as trim package, but they're different vehicles. Different body, frame, interiors and in same cases engines and transfer cases. I'm guessing you have the spare tire carrier mounted to the rear cargo door, too, right? Edward

Well don't I have egg on my face! Oh well or yippee - not sure how I feel yet. I like the vehicle but all my research was on the sport. Also, I already ordered an owners manual and hitch for the sport not the LS. They are already in transit so I hope the hitch will still work. I looked underneith the frame and the hole pattern appears to be the same needed for the sport.
BTW: Yes my tire is on the back door
Thanks Jim

I'd double check, but I don't think the hitch for the Montero Sport will fit the Montero. Guys on 4x4Wire.com might know. I wouldn't be too upset. You have the equivalent of a Toyota Landcruiser. Actually, it's a more expensive vehicle. Built just as well as a Montero Sport. Or whichwise, depending on how you look at it. Edward
