Hey all! Havnt been on here in a while, anyways I'm looking at buying another montero sport for the winter so my jeep dosnt have to see salt and start rusting more. I found a MS for 1500 bucks it's a 2000 LS with 155K. the only thing wrong is it leaks gas when it's running. Do any of you know if this is common or where you could guess the leak is coming from? It's coming from the tank so I'm thinking a line by the pump? Any help would be great!

I had the line coming off my pump rust out and it was spitting fuel out the side when it was running. Its been quite a few years but if I remember right the hard lines are a part of the pump so we replaced the pump.

MS fuel systems are under about 38 psi and the LAST think you want is a fuel leak. Depending on what you mean by 'when it's running', it may be a bad gasket, a loose sensor, loose/rotted hose. Whatever it is, it better not be on he road doing that. One spark and .... This is EXTREMELY unlikely, but ... check the bottom of the tank and see if the skid plate is mashed up against the gas tank. If that's the case, crud may have worn through the bottom. Easy to check, though, since you'll be able to see if its coming down from the top along the sides. Edward

Well I bought a new (new to me) Montero sport. It took me a while to find what I was looking for but I found it. It's a 2002 Montero Sport XLS 3.5. I got it for 900 bucks today. It's got 194,000 miles. It needs cats, the previous owner said that the ignition control modual went out and they were running the truck like that and cause a whole bunch of fuel to get into the converter and destroy it. So it runs rough but it sounded very good, no kicking or ticking of any sorts. So later today I'm going to tow it home with my jeep and get started on another project.

There are three or four. Two down from the intake manifolds and then one or two in the main pipe. Thought CAL might have four, but I don't remember. There's at least three, though. That means you'll be replacing O2 sensors as well. Edward
