alternator and transmission rebuilt on 2003 Montero Sport XLS. Car continues to shudder off and on at speeds between 25-40mph, worse by far in the rain. I am frustrated as the experience at the transmission shop was less than stellar and I am hoping I don't have to go back to them for the third time. I know it isn't right but I am also not a mechanic but a single mom who has kiddos to get safely where they need to be. This has been an AMAZING vehicle, never a problem until this so am hoping someone here will have some input for me.
Thanks so much for any light you can shed!!

The shop MUST USE SPIII transmission fluid. If they did not take it back and tell them to put that In. If they did use the correct fluid you might try some shudder doctor or shudder fix.

When I asked about using the mitsu at I was told that he knew what kind of fluid to use and not to tell him how to do his job. Very aggressive, threatening. So my next question is would another shop be able to tell what fluid was used?
Thank you so much for your help!

They might be able to. A lot of mechanics don't know what kind of fluid to use in our monteros. I wouldn't put up with a disrespectful mechanic.

I would ask for your money back as even if they rebuilt it they did not fix the problem you paid to get fixed. Might be a hassle but when I was getting my ASE cert, never finished, an instructor told me you can do that through small claims to get your money back although would take forever. I'd do that and go to another shop. I can understand a bit about not being told how to do my job. In any job field that is a bit frustrating but don't think he should have reacted that way. I have 225k on my tranny and not sure when it was serviced last, need to get done, but I have no problems if that gives you an idea how well built these things are. Bottom line is tell them your not going to pay any more till its fixed or ask for your money back and go to another shop. If you don't want to go through that hassle just take it to the dealer and have them flush and put new fluid. I think I read an old post about Joel doing that at the dealership to fix that problem. So with it being freshly rebuilt I would assume that would cure it. If not maybe they didn't rebuilt it correctly.

I think it's outrageous the way he responded to you. I would probably go to the nearest dealership as Jay suggested and make sure they put the right fluid in, then file small claims against the jerk since you probably don't want to deal with him anymore. Hope it works out for you.
