I just purchased an 01 3.5 Limited with 146k and was wondering if it has a transmission oil cooler as standard equipment? Want to do some towing and know this is important. Thanks and what a great forum!

You may want to have a look up front in the radiator area to see if there is a cooler in front of the ac condenser or in front of your radiator, should be fairly visible if that model came with one.

Got my answer from my mechanic, it does have one, although the transmission cooler lines were all rusted and need to be replaced, which is better than a lot of other things it could have been when I saw smoke under the hood, apparently lines were dripping on catalytic converter. Either way, just got the timing belt, water pump and all pulleys changed for $750.00, including tax, which I can certainly live with.

Guess I am unclear--what is the issue with the OEM transmission cooler? I will only be towing about 1800-2000 pounds on a 12 foot utility trailer on fairly easy terrain (2 atvs on the trailer) and any boat towing would be locally on flat terrain. What is deficient concerning the stock cooler?

They are insufficient at cooling, at least mine certainly was. I never tow, but my AT/Temp light came on every time I went on a road trip so I'd have to pull over and let it idle for 15 mins. I never see that light with the added cooler.
