I have my 2000 MS XLS 3.0 pretty much all fixed up. New shocks, tires balanced (fixed wheel wobble), adjusted steering box to take up slack in the steering. One thing that I have noticed when I first start her up after sitting overnight it doesn't want to shift out of first gear. If I let off the throttle for a second it will shift. Once the transmission is warmed up within 5 min, no issues shifting at all. I have checked the fluid and it is at the correct level and clean. Any insight on this would be great!
Thank you, Dustyn

I think I will just do a drain and fill using Diamond SPIII. I have read conflicting things about the filter, some say it is an aluminum filter that is built to last the life of the tranny. Others say it should be changed. Also is there a way to tell what fluid is in there now? It is clean so I assume it has been changed sometime recently, but no clue if the previous owner used SPIII. If it has regular ATF in it should I take it to a Mitsu dealer to have it flushed? I have 98K miles on it.

I think there is an internal filter that is aluminum, but the filter in the oil pan is plastic. Beware of picking up a pan filter that has an extended inlet tube (3/4"). The one I bought indicated it was a direct OEM replacement, but I actually had to cut off the inlet tube to get the pan back on. The one I pulled out did not have an extended tube.

I know from owning a 2004 ford taurus with 82k on it, took it in to have it flushed and new filter and fluid, it was about 350 miles later the tranny started slipping on me ,so for me it was the wrong thing to do, drain and fill yes flush no. I did my drain and fill twice this past summer on my 01 MS did it a 2nd time to ensure the torque converter had newer fluid in it. Used the Mitsu SPIII. All is good so far and dipstick shows clean fluid.
