Wow that's crazy. I immediately put techno music to it. Un ta un ta un ta.... Had positive results with quality power alts. LOL! Yea, I like those guys. I talked to the owner week before last when ordering a spare for my big Sport. I HATE that silica out in southern UT. That stuff beats the crap out of the alternator on my big Sport. Really makes me wish the alternator was mounted on the top like the old GM setups. Sigh. But, he was really helpful and accommodating. I'll swap out the old one here in a couple weeks, send it back, have them rebuild it and then send it back and I'll have a spare. Rebuild pricing was exactly the same as the little shop I've been dealing with for 30 years here locally. Edward

Looked them up and WOW..that is almost double the power output than stock!
A lil bit pricey for me right now..but definitely something I will look into in the future. This makes me plan on snagging up a alternator from a salvage MS and sending it to them when I am ready.
Could of used this when the alternator went bye bye on my wifes Big Montero several months ago. This past Florida summer really put a toll on some of the original parts on her Montero.

Yea, its a big jump. Getting close to 2x. But, big jump in price, too. Unfortunately, I've had zero luck finding anything cheaper that actually works right and lasts. So far they've been great and their stuff works. I just wish my big Sport didn't eat alternators - keeping that thing powered has gotten really expensive. No, that's not how this works. Quality Power doesn't 'convert' alternators. You can't send them some random alternator and have them turn it into an HO alternator. What I'm doing is sending in one of THEIR HO alternators I bought from them a while back for rebuild. All they're doing is freshening up one or their alternators. So, they will rebuild THEIR alternators at a VERY reasonable price is what I'm saying. The shop here in town usually charges around $60-80 to do a rebuild. NOT a conversion - a REBUILD. I get a cut rate from the shop here so I know Quality is being reasonable with their prices. Yea, heat and alternators don't get along well. Or water and alternators. Or, as I've learned, that nasty flower sand in Moab and alternators. Edward

mrgalantguy - I was hesitant to buy an aftermarket so was at the point of buying the oem from the dealer for the same price. Edward has had good success with them so I went with them instead

Made a huge difference. And yes a top mount I would prefer. And closer to the battery wouldn't hurt. .

I'm not sure why they always have to put the alternator and battery at opposite ends. I thought about looking at swapping the PS pump and alternator but that's more effort than I'm willing to go put out. Edward

Are these alternators prone to going bad, even without oil contamination? I had mine replaced at a dealership about 3 years ago and I'm seeing pulsing lights like the video posted here.

No, not in my experience. My big Sport's original alternator lasted for years and years before it started having bearing problems. The one in my little Sport looks like the original alternator and it has 180K and its fine. My '03 has about 130K and I know that's the original, but I think (pretty sure) I accidentally fried this one swapping batteries around a few weeks ago. I've seen no more regulator problems on Monteros and Montero Sports than any other vehicle. I've talked to the senior techs and manager at the dealership about this, too, over the years. Most have a decade or more at other manufacturer's shops and they have the same opinion. No more or less reliable than anything else. Alternators aren't really rocket surgery. They're very simple and if you don't abuse them they'll last for a long time - no matter if its a Honda, Toy, Mitsu or Chevy. Now, this all assumes that the alternators are factory OE pieces. The rebuilt stuff? Good luck. All the rebuilt parts are coming from China. Everything I've seen for the last several years is rebuilt in Mexico. Put the two together and you really don't know how long they'll last. Its possible they didn't use a OE alternator, its defective, they screwed up putting it in, ... any number of things. But regulators don't usually quit for no reason. I've had more alternator bearings go out than regulators. Edward

Thanks Ed. No idea if it's OEM or not, but will check the device next time I go in. Dang thing wasn't cheap though. Installed by Bakersfield, CA Mitsu when they did the T belt.

I thought I would post a update. I replaced the alternator with a Ultima 90amp alternator from O'Reilly's this past weekend.
It solved the pulsating/flickering light issue I was having...everything works perfectly fine electrically on the MS.
