2003 3.5 , AWD very close to 150k miles. I am in need to replace the rear coils. Off road shop in Lakewood CO wants $600 parts and labor. Claims two hours on each side. Parts are 140.00 a piece but have to wait for parts to arrive. Is this a good price? Is this a DIY job? What else did you use as a cross over part if any? I read in another forum that some springs from a Dodge Dakota fits the Sport. Thank you for your input.

Are you just replacing them with stock springs or trying to lift it? Also, why do you think they need replaced?
If its just a stock replacement, that sounds about right. My SkyJackers ran about the same price.
If I may ask, which 'off road shop'?

Hey Ed, I was thinking of medium duty. No lift. I think I need to replace them because the driver side rear is about an inch lower than the right side. There is a shop on W Colfax kinda new next to Discount Tires in Lakewood. I think the name is RSG I or something like that but they advertise alignment for 4x4's. Thank you for your prompt response.

I found online through Parts Geek rear coils for 70.00 a piece. Half the price from others so far. These are from a Swedish company call Lesjofors. Anybody any experience with this company? Thanks!

OUCH! Ok, yea, that sounds like replacement time. Dang. That's the first time I've heard of a Sport with coils doing that. Hmmm. That's my neck of the woods but I haven't been down there for a while. Don't recognize them. I would suggest giving Maximum Service (on 44th) a ring and see if they will replace them for you. If you do, tell him Edward with the giant SAS'd black Sport sent you. They should treat you pretty well. I've had good luck with them forever. They do the alignments on my 'Bird and big Sport as well as other things like ball joints. No experience with out of the country spring manufacturers at all. Either coil or leaf. $70 each is reasonable. Do they supply spring rates? Are they just stock rate replacements? You probably already know this, but make sure you replace both and from the same manufacture. BTW, there aren't any noises coming from the back are there? Have you had the rear checked? I'm a little concerned that you have a 1" difference. It is possible that one is just going south, but ... wondering if there might be something else hiding around there. A bent arm can cause this, too, without there being anything wrong with the springs. Also, if you're running high pressure gas shocks and loose pressure in one, you'll have the same affect. One side will sit lower. Noticed a while back I lost a KYB shock in my 'Bird on the rear and now the driver side sits 1.5" lower than the passenger side. New shock time. Edward

Hello Ed, I have replaced all 4 shocks with the KYB but not high pressure. I just went ahead and basically swap them. Could it be that I tighten to much one side. I did not use torque specs. I was looking at the posted manual and it referred at the distance from the nuts holding the shocks at the top. But you also got me thinking about the rear arm being bent. The shop the you refer is Maximum Auto Service Center on 9491 W 44th Ave Wheat Ridge? The shop that I was trying to use is RSG Mobile Innovations 9680 W Colfax next door to Discount Tires. They have all kind of jeeps outside and claim that they do alignments on 4WD's. As always thanks for your help, maybe we can get together with other MS owners in/around Denver. RD

No, if they're not hp gas shocks, that wouldn't be it and I've never used a torque wrench when installing shocks in my life. I install the shocks and snug the bolts down. I just don't get crazy tightening. Yep, behind the Big O. Been doing business with them since I started driving. FYI, they're not an import mechanic shop. They're an old school race shop - they DO NOT work on rice burners. I wouldn't be asking them to work on the engine, body, etc., but swapping springs is pretty generic and they should be able to handle that easily. Hmmm. I'll have to take a buzz by there this weekend. No worries. Glad to help. Yea, that would be great! If we can find any more around Denver. Might have to hit up CoSport and have him drag his Toy along. Edward

I found Rocky Road Outfitters out of Utah who sells the back coil springs for the Sport but they said it will lift my truck 2". I am just replacing the rear coils. Can I just do that with out modifying anything else? They also sell the torsion bars for the front. Somebody have experience with this shop and doing this mods? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the OME springs. I'm not familiar with RRO. I don't get up that far very often. No. You will either need to tighten up the front torsion bars or replace the bars with the matching aftermarket torsion bars. I recommend the latter. Its more expensive but you'll be a lot happier. You will also need longer end links for the rear sway bar as well as longer rear shocks. The overall process is pretty simple. If they can't replace a set of springs and two torsion bars ... well, I'd be pretty surprised. However, I've thought that before. YMMV. Edward
