The Monty I bought about six months ago had the front drive shaft removed. So when I got myself a new shaft I had no mating marks to ensure that it was balanced. I get vibrations that start at about 40 mph which I am assuming is due to it not being balanced because it has only started doing this since I installed it.
So could someone please help me. I need some instructions on how to get this done right. I have searched the forums and can't find anything other than people saying to mark it before removal.

I've got the same issue after reinstalling my drive shaft but I think the problem is that it needs be adjusted in the middle "Very Simple Job" I just haven't taken the time to do so.

I don't think I've ever run across anything in the FSMs about aligning the front drive shaft. If you installed a OE replacement, it should be balanced at the factory. Is this an OE factory replacement or a rebuild/something from China? Is this in an AWD Sport or a standard (LS/XLS, non-AWD) Sport? How are you testing this? If you're putting it in 4WD Hi and driving on pavement, you'll get vibration. That's not due to the drive shaft. That's drive train bind and that behavior is normal. With some tires its not real noticeable, but with other tires its REALLY noticeable. Edward

Vibrations at 40mph ? Must be All Wheel Drive (AWD) in order for it to vibrate. Never heard of a AWD model.

About 35-40 mph is where I start to get 'vibration' on my LS Sports in 4WD Hi on dry pavement. My Limited AWD Sports do no do this at all, unless you put them in 4WD Hi. That's the point of having AWD vs a standard 4WD locking transfer case - no drive train bind in AWD. The easiest way for me to track down a actual vibration vs drive train bind is drive it on a smooth gravel road or rain slick pavement and see if the same thing comes up. If it magically goes away, then it's drive train bind. My two LS Sports aren't as bad running stock sized A/Ts, but it REALLY shows up with my big Sport with sticky 35" M/Ts and it starts about 20-25 mph. AWD and 4WD are not equivalent although manufacturers have frequently mixed the two up. Mitsu started selling AWD Sports in the US in '99. I had a white '99 Limited 3.5L AWD for a while. They continued through termination of the product in the US in '05. I currently own a '03 Limited 3.5L AWD. There aren't that many around but Mitsu did make and sell them. Good vehicles - if you ignore the fact that they're gas sucking pigs and eat tires. No different than anyone else's AWD vehicles. Edward
