2001 Montero sport xls, 3.0L Auto trans 4x4.
Code P0431 was here a bit ago and then left long enough for us to pass emissions. Now its back.
Research show:
"Warm up catalyst below threshold cylinders 2-3" (Bank 2)
possible reasons
1. Faulty CAT
2. Exaust leak near rear 02
3. Faulty rear 02
So what are the odds it is the cat versus an o2 misreading? Not sure if the cats have ever been replaced and the rig has 239,000 miles presently. All o2s were replaced no more then 10,000 miles ago, so tthye have a warrenty.
I have it at the shop for the leak around the transmission. He is going to use the scan tool to get some live data on the o2s.
In the inturum I am trying to research the cats. Based on initial searching I had assumed the monitored pre-cats were one solid y-pipe. Since the darn rig is with him I can't look.... grr
But as I'm reading more I'm finding parts sold individually. Am I lucky enough that the 2 precats are actually separate on my rig?
I was trying to figure it out on this diagram, but the resolution is not good enough. I see they cats listed separate on the parts list 12 & 13. and it looks like there could be a flange...
By now I know some of you have had to deal with this as old as the guys are. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Here are some of the cats I have found... only looking at factory direct replacement fit (bolt on)
These say for the 2001 Sport with 3.0L. No mention of xls not working. (catco)
