Hey guys new to the forum! I just bought a a MS last month and I i want to put bigger tires on it! I'm going to keep the stock rims and paint them black. Now I looked around and someone posted that 275 70 16 are the biggest you can go... Idk what that size exactly is but what size are 33s? I was thinking crank the torsion bars and run 33s.. Feedback please! Anyone have pics with their MS with 33s or bigger tires in general??

I have a 2001 montero sport 4x4. From what I found 265/75 r16 was the largest one could go with out any kind of lift. I want to say they translate to 32s. Then I researched what it would take to get 33ish tires on mine... aka 285/75 r16. This size is quite close to a 33. It took a 2 inch body lift to make it happen. This was the cheapest route. I know you can't just crank the torsion bars and call it good... you will need 2 inches in the rear to clear 33s. Then you would need to address the rear coil springs needing to lift as well. Replacement coils are in order in the rear. Here is my thread covering my research and end result. msport97.proboards.com/thread/10739/montero-sport-body-suspension-neededThis one has good info from Edward about tires sizes: msport97.proboards.com/thread/10737/new-montero-sport-owner-advise After adding the 285/75s, I kept the oem 16 inch rims and painted them. You can see the transformation here. msport97.proboards.com/thread/10797/oem-wheel-makeover

Wow thanks raif I appreciate it! how much of a difference do the bigger tires make a difference look/ drive /wise? I can tell you have the lift on in the pic you shared. Was the rubbing really bad?

The mechanic who installed the tires trimmed the bumper ever so slightly. I have not noticed any rubbing. I will have to take a pic of the minor trim he did to the bumper. You would not even notice unless you knew to look for it.
The tires that were on it were so bad that it drives so much better now.... lol... no more shaking steering wheel. It's weird getting used to it sitting up so high. I'm used to a 2003 civic, a lowered delsol and lowered fiero. I feel like someone threw me on top of a bus when I'm driving it.... lol. I may widen the stance just for the sake of stability... have not decided....
I do notice it does not accelerate as well. The tires are so heavy for such a little motor. Make it work pretty hard. I want to install a flowmaster and a cold air intake. I'm hoping that will kind of cancel out the power drain from the tires.

Update: I purchased some Kenda Klever MT's 265/75/r16! They look awesome, cannot wait to put them on. Should I buy a leveling kit? seems like the back is raised higher than the front...
