So I videoed my horrendous front end noise coming from the 2001 montero sport xls 4x4 3.0l auto. It did not do this one bit last week. 2001 Montero Sport XLS 3.0L front suspension noise: youtu.be/4B-EaLaiBhwIt seems to have occured after I washed all the clay off the undercarriage, frame, suspension & a-arms. Is there a chance the mud was covering up the squeaks or limiting travel? Did washing out the mud wash out grease from the suspension? Where should I look? What part would cause this noise. On a side note.... I think I want to swap my grease over to synthetic anyway. Where are all my grease points. Zerks fittings can sometimes be missed. Where all should I look? What's the best way to flush out the old grease to replace it? Just force in the new and it will flush out the old?

You pretty much answered your own question. :-) that sounds like the torsion bars. Don't remember if they have zirk fittings or not. Check both ends though. Pretty sure all the steering components and upper/lower controls arms have them.

I will have to come up with some diagrams till know what's what on the suspension. Heck i would not know a torsion bar if i tripped over it. Lol. It's so different from both my firebird, fiero and mustang. I just want to be sure I grease everything and that I grease it correctly. I know not all fitting have zerks and sometimes they fall out. And with this trucks previous owner it's hard to say how well in repair these items are. I wonder how many will have to be cleaned cause they will be clogged. On my fiero I put dust caps on all my fittings. I even added zerks to bushing that did not come with them. (A arm bushings and sway bar bushings) I have a stash or zerks I can even replace any bad ones
So do you think my cleaning washed away some of the lubrication?

More than likely. Mine sqeaks sometimes after wheeling session cleaning. You probably do your own oil changes but if not most places hit the fittings as the lube part of oil and lube. Torsion Bars are the long bars running from the a arms back. Act as the springs to support the weight of the vehicle.

My suspension squeaks every time I drive it in a rain storm, usually the sway bar bushings.

Took some pics of the suspension while I was painting the Wheels... Did notice the outer tierod boot on the drivers side is cracked. Does this mean just replace the boot or am I looking at the entire tierod due to wear? Is there A check to see if ineranl bearing damage has osccured? Here are the front sway bar bushings.... So is this outer front sway bar bushing supposed to be this loose? Rear endlink bushings? Cracking... replace?

Ahh yes sway bar bushings. Forgot about those. After a lube, the squeaking stops on mine so didn't think about them. But yea those are in pretty bad shape. Pretty easy to replace just stay away from the polyurethane ones iirc. There are a couple write ups about it on here if you do a search. You should also adjust them if raising or lowering the ride height from stock.

Adjust them?
I assume the body lift and larger tires will not effect and it won't need adjustment? Only if I did a suspension lift???
How does one make those adjustments?

What do you know! Mine makes almost the same noise from the front and I was curious to what it was....if I spray-lube all the joints it goes away for a bit, but usually comes back. Might have to check the zerk fittings and give everything a good grease. I'm definitely subscribing to this thread to hear what you come up with as a solution. I'm following your threads on ExPo too and you're asking a lot of the same questions I have about my '03.

Thise sway bar bushings don't look too good, I'd replace them. Don't forget the center link bushings in the front. I had some clunking until I replaced them.

Adjust them? I assume the body lift and larger tires will not effect and it won't need adjustment? Only if I did a suspension lift??? How does one make those adjustments? Body lift doesn't require any changes to the anti-sway bars as you're only changing the body to frame height. The anti-sway bars attach to the axle/a-arms and chassis. NOT to the body. Anti-sway bars must be parallel to be the most effective. Lengthen the rear bar end links to keep the bar parallel to the ground. There isn't anything practical you can do with the front bar so I wouldn't worry about it. Edward

Hey Edward... I was hoping you would chime in on this.
I read another thread where you mentioned changing grease over to valvoline synthetic grease. I just happen to have some that I used on the bird and fiero....
Anyway. What's the best way to swap over? Flush them? Do I just fill the fitting with the new and force out the old? Keep filling till I see no more old coming out just new? Have never swapped over to something different before.

If you want to swap over to new grease just pump in new grease until you see new grease coming out. Only thing to be careful is to do it slowly, if you do it too fast the grease being pushed out from under the dust boot can split the boot do to pressure.
