So here I go saying I want to switch to synthetic cause my seals are good.... it's like the Sport heard me and said "HA that's what you think!" So I sprayed the oil pan with brake cleaner to get rid of some old residual gunk last weekend and checked it today while we were dropping off my grandson... ugh I have a leak. I assumed it was the differential leaking, but it seems like it traveled there from above.... I can't see the leak from above... but it's on the driver side, front of the motor above the oil filter & AC compressor (bottom accessory on that lower corner of the motor)... 3.0L motor... Ok here is a pic. Any idea what seal is blown? Nose is to the Left in the pic ...driver side at top.

If the valve cover gasket is not leaking, I would suspect the left cam seal is blown. They're known to lek on the passenger side way before the drivers side. With the mileage that is on your rig, I wouldn't be surprised if yours left side finally wore out. To replace it, you're pretty much in for a timing belt job. I am kind of in the same boat as you are. I fixed all the leaks except for ny drivers side cam seal. I have a new seal to go in but I really don't feel like doing another timing belt job just yet

Wonder if the seal is under warrenty. Mechanic replaced it when he did the timing belt at 225,000. Rig is at 240

Possible. I ordered Felpro seals for mine, but after reading that aftermarket seals tend to leak I am going to returnt them. I have an aftermarket one on the front of the crank and its holding up just fine.

It depends upon the brand of seal and how it is installed. Improperly installed seals that are high quality will leak just as bad as cheap seals.

I am pretty sure the seal I installed was a FelPro or a Timken. I've installed a dozen of seals and never had one leak, I tend to take my time with them.

I use break clean for just about every oil/grease situation I am in. Some will probably tell me that is not good but works like a charm.

I had the same exact problem soon after my timing belt and cam seals were done. I think mine was the oil pump leaking though.

Brake cleaner or even carb cleaner are very abrasive substances so it is not recommended to clean electronics.
