Hey gents, my dash lights for gear selection seem to be slipping out of sync with the lever. When my lever is in neutral, my display lights both N and D. Anybody recall how these two are connected? Is this the culprit? Attachments:

Possibly. Definitely the linkage in the console. Is it only between N and D

Yes only when in neutral both letters N and D light up, a recent problem. Also Park doesn't light at all, which has been an issue since I bought the truck. I know the bulb is good too.
I just opened up the console last week and there was nothing I could see in there that would cause this, so I think this switch is the only remaining possibility.

Yea that makes sense. Haven't dug around in the console in awhile. Not sure what actually relays the message to the cluster but how it's acting leads me to believe that the linkage is out of sync. Odd though that it's only in neutral. Does it do it on the shifter to. Don't remember if there is anything actually inside the shifter piece other than lights and the indicator.

There is only a back light at the shift lever, and a nylon strip that moves with the lever to keep the opening covered.
I pulled the park/neutral switch loose today to clear it of oily mud and to see if there was some visibly wrong, and in doing so I actually effected the display in the dash. Now I'm getting R and D both lighting up with N!
Good part is that the switch definitely seems to be the problem. Not sure how I'll unclip the switch cable on top of the tranny without dropping the trans.
UPDATE: Evidently you can reach up and follow the wire harness to unclip the connector, but it's a tight space and you do it by feel. May have to remove the front drive shaft to make room.

Just tried that online Mitsubishi JustAnswer thingy for grins. The tech felt this was a pretty solid indicator of a bad P/N switch malfunction so I bought one on ebay for $90. Yes OEM.
