I have a friend who's daughter has a 01 MS and he is trying to find a new fuel tank for the truck but has had no luck other than used from a parts yard. Anyone have any idea on this , the old tank is leaking near the top.

I just replaced my tank as it was leaking. I thought it was from the top, turns out the rear of the tank where the mounting bracket meets the tank had a 2" long rust hole in it and the gas was running down the lip to the front of the tank then dripping to the ground.
That said i purchased a tank and fuel filler neck from a pick it yourself yard for 42$. That included a center console lid as well. The tank i bought came off a 01 and was in superb condition compared to mine. Inside and out looked great.
Good luck. Hope you find a good one and a good deal.

Sure it's the tank and not the lines? When I got mine the first thing I had to do was fix the rusted lines coming out the top of the tank. The tank was fine.

Yea he pulled the tank and it was leaking at the seam he said, he used some repair goop to seal it, may last year may not . Do you know what he used exactly? There is a product out that is a tank liner that I've used before for on motorcycle tanks. It depends on how bad the tank leak is but for pin holes and very fine cracks it works. Restoration guys use it to seal un-replaceable tanks that are rusted inside. I used on a bike tank that had pin holes and rust that I couldn't find a replacement for. Had it for a few years and never did have a problem. Edward
