New addition to the corral - 1999 Limited

It looks like I have a new addition to the Mitsubishi corral. I sold my '02 Eclipse GT Wednesday - looks like I'm getting a replacement. 1999 Limited 3.5L 4WD This isn't a pic of the vehicle. I forgot to snap some and she didn't post any on the add. But, this is the same green and bronze. All the options except the tire carrier. ARG!!!!! Dash pod, heated seats, locking rear diff, running lights, moon roof, rack, Infinity head and single CD changer, rear antenna, leather of course, tan interior forest green and bronze paint. Body is in great shape. Needs some work but it passes emissions, so .... Figure about $5K and it'll be new again. Then I can start torching the suspension off. This'll be my new 'big Sport' build. Not sure about the front suspension yet. Either 3-link or an upgraded radius arm suspension like my current big Sport. Couple Dynatrac ProRock 44s and dual t-cases and I'll be all set. Plan to make this a dedicated wheeling vehicle and keep my black big Sport for DD and day wheeling CO. Time to order another ARB bull bar and winch, I guess. Sucks that it doesn't have the tire carrier, though. Absolutely have to have a rear carrier and I REALLY don't want to have to have someone build one. CoSport's wasn't bad, but I'm a lot pickier. I'll need to get my '03 cleaned up and on the market. Four Sports is a bit much. Edward

Edward hoards every good Monty available out there since US Mitsubishi is going out of business,LOL Good God, my neighbors already think I'm some crazy, environment destroying redneck. I'm pretty sure one more won't change that opinion. Driving a beat up 'monster truck' is frowned upon, to say the least! Actually, having two ought to be pretty funny!! I'm thinking maybe I'll do like the guy that collected one of every US coin ever minted and when he died it turned out to be worth like a $100M dollars. 'Cept my collection will be worth more like a $100 dollars and I'll donate it to some car museum in 'Vegas. What's really funny is, one of my employees bought my Eclipse, one of my other employes bought an Outlander, one of my OTHER employees drives a '98 Sport and I leave one of mine at the office 'cause I don't have room at home + whatever Sport I drive in for the day. In a parking lot of 8-12 vehicles, five are Mitsu's. I need to get a GT3000, an EVO and maybe a couple Monteros and I could open my OWN museum! Edward

So, here she is. Brought it back to the office this morning. 160K. They took good care of the exterior and interior. Engine runs good and emissions were good. A/T seems nice and solid, too. Shocks are shot and the front suspension/steering is nasty. Got a wheel bearing going out for sure and maybe something else in the steering. Not too worried about the drive train and suspension. I'll have the tech get any dangerous stuff fixed so I can get it back and forth from the house, shop, etc. but since I plan to torch the entire bottom end off and probably replace the A/T so I can install the dual t-cases, there's not much point in getting nit-picky there. Dealership pulled the build sheet for me. Even has the heated mirrors. Every option I've ever heard of - except the rear tire carrier. ARG!!! Oh, well. For $2K, I can't complain too much. Edward

Edward hoards every good Monty available out there since US Mitsubishi is going out of business,LOL Too funny. Yea, if only I could hoard another '99 Limited only with the tire carrier this time. Only a couple very small dings. Interior is perfect except for the surface cracking on the front leather seats. The clear on the door pillars just started getting white a few months ago. Been garaged most of its life I was told. Needs the A/C fixed . Shouldn't be hard to rewire the factory driving light harness into new LED lights. Talked to the tech at the dealership today. He has a line on a guy that does custom plate bumpers and racks. Think I've seen one of his on a LC. VERY nice! $2K with rack, can carriers, etc. in steel. Have to check that out. Gonna be sad to hack the Mitsu locker out, but that's not gonna work too well with ProRocks. I think that's going to go into my '97 LS if it'll fit. Dang! This might be too nice to 'wheel when its all done. Edward

I still have a tire carrier if you're really seriously looking for one.
I noticed in one of your pics at "the office", "remote start sold here", is that your office?

Tire carrier isn't really the issue. Its the zillion little pieces that are necessary to make it work. The parts guy pulled everything related to the TC. Got availability, prices, etc. Some pieces are not longer available and they're required so they'd have to be fabed. Looking at about $1000 for what is, not counting the valance, rear license plate mount and any missing wiring. What all do you have exactly? Just the tire carrier itself, or ...? That's our building. Shop is on the bottom; we have most of the top floor for our offices. Convenient and no one complains about what I park there. Edward

Ahh lol was just wondering if you did remote starts for a living. I have a few pieces left. It's still on the hinges, still has the handle/lock, plastic cover, and a couple other plastic covers. It's rusted solid though. What parts aren't available anymore? Obviously I'd have the rest of the parts but she's not a donor car yet

Ahh lol was just wondering if you did remote starts for a living. Nope. Actually my partner and I run a telecom company. The shop downstairs is our landlord. Not fancy, but we have tons of space, its cheap and is real close to all our facilities. And, like I said, since its a shop downstairs no one complains about what I park. Ouch. Yea, lot more rust than my two. I have a complete list - which I left at home today. If you want I can scan Monday it and post it. Its every part I could find that would be required. What's here in the US, unavailable and what has to come from JP. Off the top of my head I don't remember the details. I've been running non-stop for the last week. The old Quality Mitsu dealership was shut down here in south Denver today. That's the one I've been working with for 17 years. The tech and parts guy I've been working with are going to Hyundai a block south - they'll be doing all the Mitsu service in south Denver now. Sold my Eclipse, a friend of mine at the office (the one with the '98 Sport) is thinking about buying my '03 Limited so I've been getting that cleaned out and ready for her to take it for the weekend and I had a couple things left to have done on the big Sport before they closed the dealership and I took off to Moab in a couple weeks. I've been living at the dealership the last two weeks - ordering spares and anything I could think of needing in the next year. We ALMOST got a brake proportioning valve installed yesterday before the shut everything down. Last thing on the list. Couldn't get the correct fittings to take the Mitsu line to the new valve. Needed a double flare to a bubble flare; couldn't find one in time. Sigh. Edward

I went to pick up my sway bar bushings and the building I always went to was empty, so I called them to see what was going on and they gave me the address to a Kia dealership! I went in and it was the same people in the parts department, but it was basically just a small Mitsubishi service/parts department with some new Mitsubishi's outside in the parking lot for sale, they didn't even have a showroom, it (the showroom) was filled with Kia's. All Mitsubishi had was a little section of the (already kind of small) Kia dealership building and two of Kia's eight bays for their service department and on top of that, with no showroom, and this is the only Mitsubishi "dealership" in town. What's going on with Mitsubishi?

What's going on with Mitsubishi? Dang. Don't even have that. They let the franchise go. Retained the tech and parts guy, but that's all. I don't know. My theory is they're getting out of the global automobile market. Its not just the US, they're slowly pulling out of Europe, too. Its hard for a company with the kind of product model they have to compete in a 'its crap, but its CHEAP crap' market. Mitsubishi doesn't produce cheap crap. Anything. They never have and I suspect that they refuse to compromise themselves so they won't start now. The entire auto industry is in a race to the bottom. That's been going on for a decade+. Google, Apple, Musk, and the rest of the tech industry megalomaniacs are going to accelerate that. The tech industry is envisioning in 10-20 years no one will own a car. 'Automobiles' will be 'community' property. You won't drive it, it'll drive itself. Uber is already experimenting with 'no one owning cars' in the far east. Google and Apple have both talked about this and claimed that's what their working towards. There's a reason that Google, Apple, MS, are so hot on 'self driving cars'. Its not the reasons they claim. Millions of collective hours are spent by people in transportation. Right now they have to focus on driving so those are potential 'customer' viewing hours are lost. Wouldn't it be great if people could focus on something else because they didn't have to focus their attention on driving? Say ... advertisements? Welcome to the cell phone/tablet of transportation. So, if you're an old school manufacturer, would you want to stay in the automobile market? There's a lot more going on economically as well as with technology in the industry and none of it is even remotely compatible with Mitsubishi. If I were them, I'd be looking to cash out, too. Edward
