It's a new week, with new issues on my 01 Sport 3.0
With the help of my fellow forum mates, I fixed all of the codes on my new to me sport and hit the road. I lasted all of 2 days before my friendly neighborhood SES light popped back on. It also still isn't right, and I'm thinking I have 2 issues.
First, the auto trans seems like it doesn't downshift all the way to 1st at stops. Either that, or it's starting in 2nd or 3rd gear from a stop. I have to push the accelerator nearly to the floor to get the sport to move, then you can feel the trans kick down and the sport takes off like a bat out of hell. No clue on that issue except maybe the tranny is overdue for service. I'm working my way there, just not that far yet.
My new code is P0300. Random misfire. In checking on the bazillion things that can cause this code I found corrosion in one of the coil pack sockets (Cyl 1). I also found more cut and hastily butt-connected wires - this time 2 of the wires out of that go to the ignition module.
Off to test voltage in the connector, then the module and coil.
My $1000 Monty is turning into a sh*t show...

I recently got the P0300 on cylinder 3. Did a plug and wire change along with a valve cover and gasket set, which included new plug tube seals, and runs nice now. Oddly, the one plug that had no oil in the tube was #3, while nearly all others were submerged in oil. Those seals really get squashed down after a while.

So...
Tonight I ripped the butt connectors off of the pin 1 and pin 2 wires going to the ignition module and fixed the wires the right way and taped the harness back up. I noticed pin 5, the white tach wire looks to be corroded in the connector. May or may not be why the tach is inop...
Anyways...
I get 1.2 Ohms at each coil. I understand this is within spec when checked across the coil terminals. When cranking, I'm geting 9.58v on each of the 3 coil connectors, but my meter doesn't seem to show a pulse (with key on engine off I get a constant 11.5v at the connectors.
The Sport runs the same (fast idle seems ok when the sport is dead cold, but slow idle when warmed up or in gear shakes the truck like crazy, and you can smell very rich exhaust). At WOT it kicks you back in the seat and takes off like a bat out of hell, but is 100% sluggish up to that point. Disconnecting ANY ONE coil pack makes NO difference in how it runs at idle. I thought if one of the coils were bad the engine would not start assuming at one point I have one bad coil AND a 'good' coil unplugged? Will this engine run with 2 cylinders firing?
I'm tempted to replace the power transistor, plugs, wires, and VC gaskets and see what happens. Thoughts?
The plug wires are newish looking, no idea on plugs, or VC gaskets.

It's just the way automatics are, and the sport is not geared for sport at all. It doesn't downshift to first gear until you come to a complete stop. I came from a 5 speed to this, and was quickly reminded why I hate automatics. It's never in the gear I want it to be in! Anyways, if you want first gear without coming to a complete stop, you just have to floor it. I really doubt a fluid change will change anything. It's the way it's programmed to shift, which IMHO, could be a lot better.

Hmm, mine doesn't seem to do that.. it has plenty of git up from a stop without flooring. I will say that after calibrating my park/neutral switch the truck shifts better than it ever did.

See if the A/T mode switch is pushed in. Lights up "hold" on the bottom center of dash. This does lock it in second gear at stops. Also could be the TPS is in need for adjustment/replacement.

I would start by cleaning your MAF any auto parts store should have the stuff. Next is check the TP closed throttle position switch. if this is not functioning then the trans and engine won't feel right. Coils I wouldn't worry about those at this time.
