A couple of years ago, my ex-wife started driving my 02 Monty. Well, she loved driving around, hitting the horn at least 20 times per drive, so after a few months I had the dreaded jammed horn button (BTW - She did the same thing to her Mirage...). I had my mechanic just put a button on the wheel cross member so it won't hit me in the face if the airbag deploys. I'm not really happy with the looks, nor do I want to spend $1k for a new airbag. Has anyone come up with a good way to fix this?
I have a 3D printer, and I'm thinking of making a plastic mount that would go in the space above the airbag. If I did it right, I could probably add buttons for a stereo remote too. Another alternative would be to rig up a horn button on a stalk.
What alternatives have others come up with?

youtu.be/3ZMoCRcmZBs for a Montero but same basic principle. Sometimes the cover is screwed or bolted to the airbag module making separation even easier. If you don't feel comfortable with that add a button on the cover at top two spokes before the module meets the wheel. Should be plenty of room.

I had this issue on my 01 MS. I took apart the air bag/ horn unit and removed the horn switch button. The button is two sheets of metal foil that are kept separate by a grid of small rubber dots. The horn jamming issue in my case was caused by a small indentation on the foil. I fixed this by pulling apart the two sheets and sticking a small 1" piece of electrical tape on the indentation. It's been 3 years and the horn still works and hasn't jammed since.

That seems a bit scary. Could be worth giving a shot though. Seems like the only special tool is a rivet gun?

Once it's deactivated you just need to watch out for static electricity. Anti static mat wouldn't hurt and wear gloves and eye protection just in case. Yea the rivet gun and torque bit is all the special tools you need.

I didn't need a special tool to disassemble my air bag unit. I wasn't concerned about the air bag going off because it is triggered by a sinusoidal signal and not a static voltage to prevent false operation.
