Shopping for parts for the new '99 build and ran across this. Might be an alternative to the Specter Acura pipe. It LOOKS very similar to the Injen Sport pipe. Supposed to be a 3" pipe. DC Sports SRI6006I ordered a K&N FIPK kit and sock so I figured I'd grab one and see what it looked like. Edward

Please let us know how the quality is when you check it out. I still have this on the list for the Sport. Want to sort out the issues first before I start adding to the equation with modifications. What is the price range on this unit?

Hi Ed, I meant to ask you what is the specific part number for the FIPK? And for DC sport and FIPK how much modifications do we have to make in order for them to fit? Since they are meant for another models. Thanks! RD

Please let us know how the quality is when you check it out. I still have this on the list for the Sport. Want to sort out the issues first before I start adding to the equation with modifications. What is the price range on this unit? Got it on Monday. All I've done is unbox it so far so I can't comment on exact fitment yet. I'll check it with my 3.0L Sport this weekend and then install it on the '99 3.5L. I still can't figure out why the Injen says it doesn't fit the 3.5L. Since I have a stock 3.0L and 3.5L maybe I'll be able to figure out what's up with that. So far, ... Overall, it looks pretty nice. It appears well made. The couplings are better quality than a lot of them I've run across at places like AutoZone, Advanced Auto, etc. I'll pull the assembly on the big Sport and compare pipes. It looks like the DC one is a little heavier but I may be imagining things. I didn't look at the filter. I'm sticking with the K&N FIPK kit w/ pre-filter so I have no plans to ever use their filter. It LOOKS ok, I guess, but its a dry filter. I'm just not real keen on dry filters, so .... The Specter Acura/Honda pipe on my site has a inlet for the valve cover as well as this loose wierd black plastic bung looking thing. The plastic thing was loose on mine and leaked. I had to RTV that to seal it. The DC pipe doesn't have that. Just the valve cover port (in the same location). I looks like the length is spot on, but shorter than the Specter pipe. The Specter pipe required trimming. Which could be good or bad depending. Nice that you could custom fit it to end as close to the front and far away from the engine as possible, but trimming a thin aluminum tube requires a REALLY fine tooth hacksaw blade, a miter box and some emery paper (and patience) - so extra tools. The bracket on the DC pipe will probably be useless. It LOOKS like if it were a few inches longer it could be attached to the fender as intended, but ... I'll see when I mock it up. On the other hand, you can't just use that bracket to hold the pipe, MAF and filter. WAY too much weight and leverage. You still need a brace to hold the MAF and filter assembly (as I described in my write-up). If you have that, then the DC brace is pretty much useless. Worst case the attachment weld will need to be cut or the strap so its not just hanging in the way. Down side - I'm STILL short one rubber coupling. Sigh. The kit only comes with one. Thankfully, I still have all the Injen parts they sent CoSport 15 years ago - which includes a couple extra couplers. Sometimes hoarding does pay off! lol! Cost. Up side - If you pair this with a GT/Eclipse/EVO/Lancer/etc. filter/MAF adapter (+1 extra coupling) and the adapter isn't too pricy, its cheaper than the K&N GT3000 FIPK kit by a good margin. Just remember you need a 3" neck adapter to use the DC filter. K&N FIPK (Amazon) $179 Pre-filter (Amazon) $26 DC Short Ram (Amazon) $75 Vibrant Performance 4" MAF/Filter adapter ('95 Eclipse) $26 MAF Mass Air Flow Sensor Adapter + K&N Filter Kit for 95-99 Eclipse Turbo 2.0L (eBay) $62 I want to point out that the biggest reason I continue to use the GT3000 FIPK kit is because of the MAF adapter. All the $10-15 dollar cheap adapters I looked at have NO blending to smooth the air flow into the MAF. They're just a round adapter on one end and a square mount on the other. You never want to create turbulence in the MAF. The Injen is better but still nothing like the K&N. The Vibrant is about as good as the Injen. If I really had to cut costs, I'd look for something molded like or better than that. Edward

Ok. I got good news, bad news, and good news. The good news is it appears that it does fit. It also looks a little heavier than the Specter unit. The bad news is that it's longer than I anticipated. Which means that one would STILL have to trim off a few inches. I'm not too sure about the finish and how long that will last. Time will tell there. The good news is that trimming off enough to make this work would eliminate any need to fiddle with removing the attached bracket. It also will move the MAF back a little. Where mine is currently is the limit - I have an inch or so of play, just enough to be able to unplug the MAF connector and not put any strain on the wire but that's it. I think the best part is this appears to be a valid option that does allow for a little different placement of the filter if that was necessary or wanted. I won't be able to get to it this weekend, but here shortly I'll take mine out and trim the DC unit and get it ready to install in the '99. I'll post up some more pics when I do. Edward

Still in the planning stages on my set up so this is great info. I may still go on the cheap side to start only cause I have a bunch of left overs from the mustang & firebird...
