I want one just for the fifth gear on the highway. Flip side is manuals suck around town. They do have their benefits off road as well.

My Montero Sport is my first automatic transmission I've ever owned in 25 years of driving. I miss stick, my left foot gets fidgety too.

I double checked with her and she is saying it doesn't have 1st gear now. She wants 1000.00. DANG IT! Sigh. Well, that doesn't do me much good. I already have a spare that needs rebuilt and 2nd is going south in the big Sport. Again. The only place on the front range here in CO that rebuilds M/Ts took 6 months do to the last rebuild because they couldn't get parts. Unlikely I can get another one rebuilt in any sane amount of time. Guess its time to look at doing the AW4 A/T conversion to the big Sport. I talked to a friend of mine that runs a 4x shop by the house. No experience with the AW4 A/T, but he runs the Winters manual A/T shifter on a (I think) C6 in his Ford hill climb truck. Full manual A/T shifting. Basically a 4-speed M/T with a torque converter and no clutch. Loves it! Normal auto on the trail sucks - already knew that - but full manual A/T, he says, is really nice. He says you get everything you get from a M/T, without a clutch. My big issue is compression braking and hunting - compressions braking works as well as a M/T and since there's no TCU, there's no hunting. Radesigns Products' Winters A/T ShifterHe had nothing but good things to say about the shifter. Says the gated design is really, really nice. No accidentally ending up in the wrong gear or missing a gear. Talked to him about running the PCS TCU for the AW4 and Rory's manual/full auto switch. He thought that was a great idea. Full manual when you want and full auto the rest of the time. Edward
