Need a fill tube and dipstick for a 1997 or 1998 Montero Sport V4AW3 automatic transmission, ASAP. The same transmission was installed on Monteros, too, so I imagine that would also work. <edit> Dang. Looks like the Montero is different. <edit> Edward

I can look next time at lkq, does it have to be 4wd? Please! There's nothing left here at the salvage yards. The only one that had any old Mitsu stuff shut down a couple months ago. As far as I know, either ran the same transmission. On the lower passenger side of the transmission, there will be a stamped tag that says, "Aisin AW CO., LTD." and "Model No. 30-43LE". This is the Mitsu version of the Toyota, Jeep and Nissan AW4 A/T. It was only installed in the '97 and '98 Sport. The '99+ is a totally different animal. If you can come up with two fill tubes and two dipsticks, I'll be happy to pay $50-75+shipping, each. I'll take just one if that's all you can find, of course. Problem is going to be getting them to let you have them. Usually they're pretty loath to part out a working transmission. Its like trying to convince them to sell you just the transmission pan. I'll let you know tmmrw maybe, I have to grab a a glass headamp assm to see if I can open it and clean the reflector. That's cool. Thanks! The headlight assemblies are cliped and sealed. Getting the clips off isn't too hard. The assembly has to be heated to break the seal between the glass and housing. Edward

Are you talking about the one that's part of the pan? That's almost an hour long VERY messy looking job. Worse on your back on dirt, with 2' vertical space in a yard.

No. The tube that comes out of the pan is about 10-12" long and curves up at a slight forward angle. That's welded into the pan. The dipstick/fill tube is a separate piece. The end is inserted into the tube from the pan. Its a press fit with an O ring on the bottom of the tube. There are one or two - just one, I think - small bolts that attach the tube off a thin sheet metal tab to the engine and maybe the bell housing. Take the one or two bolts out, and then pull the dipstick tube out of the transmission pan tube. I've taken out a couple and they've all been different. Some are super easy and some require a little muscle. Sorry! Yea, I know its a pain in the butt. Its in an awkward spot. Edward

Lookee what you got, better be the right ones, they sure were greasy. A Cable type dipstick? I have NO idea. CoSport got rid of his several years ago. My friend's '98 here at work is a M/T. The '99+ is a totally different animal. Gen I's are super rare here in CO. Nothing to compare them to. I can ask the tech, but if you found the tags on the transmissions marked as above, then those should be it. I confirmed with Mitsu that the '97/98 are the same - no differences until the entire transmission changed. Edward

Never looked for tags, once you said 2 piece I got dirty. I can ask tech at mitsu tommorrow. Check parts book ? The '97/98 only came with the AW4 in the 4WD. That one is for sure good. Those look identical. I wonder. I've been told that early '99 3.0L Sports - '98 production - came with the AW4, but I have no proof and they don't show in the FSMs. As long as one of them came out of a '98 and they're identical, I think we're good for both.
