Hey Guys....need some help. I looked up the 1999 Montero sport 3.0 ATF fluid recommendations and get two types for the Montero Sport. I used the sp 111 the last time ,according to the chart, this may be wrong. Mine is the XLS 3.0 4x4 and its saying dextron 2? I see there is also the 3.5 in 1999 that I guessed used a diffrent asian tranny that requires the sp 111. does anybody know for sure....anyway just want to use the right stuff. thanks Larry

Use the SPIII period. It will work and you don't run the risk of using the wrong type.

The V4AW3 and V4A51. All the '97 and '98s came with the V4AW3, and all the '99 3.5L Limited models came with the V4A51. The only way I know for sure to tell what your '99 3.0L came with is to look at the tag on the firewall and/or the tag on the transmission. The transmission is scribed next to "TRANS AXLE" on the firewall tag on the driver side. The transmission tag for the AW3 is on the passenger side towards the bottom back of the transmission. It should say 30-43LE and Aisin AW CO LTD. The V4A51 may not have a tag on the transmission at all. At least I haven't' found one. The reason you're finding two types is because I'm pretty sure the V4AW3 and V4A51 use different transmission fluids. Edward
