i tried to post a pic but my photo has 171 Kb and the fail to upload msg is it cant be over 1 MB. So I put it as my avtar. BTW the limit is the same there too,but it accepted it. Click on the avtar and see if it enlarges enough to see the line with the split hose end.
Is the crack something I should clamp to prevent splitting further? what is that line for?
Anyway the pic is from the drivers side fender looking at the Lt exaust bank. There are 3 black insulated steel tubes arising from below & next to each other. When they reach the level of the cam,the line on the left#1 and the 3rd line on the right both head to the front of the engine. The middle one of the 3 heads straightup to the center top of the engine. You can easily see that steel line over the cam area dissappearing under the black engine cover .That is the one with the crack in the end of the hose where it slips over the steel line. The hose has no clamp and neither does my other montero sport and never did. So what is that line for?

Host the image on site like imagevenue, photobucket etc. It will give you a bb code with the link to post here. That line that dissapears under the plastic cover im pretty sure is fuel.
This is my guess from bottom to top. AC which would make sense since the ac compressor is over there, Fuel line and that one that is going through the metal bracket is accelerator cable.

yes that what I initially thought, but it has no hose clamp and neither did my other montero since it was new . I think Ill put a hose clamp on it just to be safe and that should keep the split from getting bigger.

The fatter one going to the port on the intake manifold did the same thing on the big Sport. I never had issues with it leaking, but it would just randomly fall off. Since the hose was in good shape, I trimmed about 3/8" off the end and plugged it back on. Haven't had a problem since. Vacuum hoses frequently don't have clamps since as long as they seal they're not likely to come off on their own because of vacuum in the line. Kind of the opposite of pressure lines that always have clamps. Edward

My guess was vacuum line because like you said, theres no pressure to escape there, but Ive never(in my limited experience) seen vacuum lines as large as fuel lines on older (60-70s) fords.

Hard to tell from the picture. I tried to blow it up but its to blurry. The fat one at the bottom has an A/C service port, more than likely the high pressure side and the smaller, similar looking one is more than likely the low pressure side. Not sure though but the high side port has an "H" and low has "L" on the cap. The one at the corner of the intake is the PCV line and the fat one on the right is probably the return to the fuel tank or the Evap line.

The line from the manifold to the vacuum brake booster? The PCV line? Both of those are huge and they're both vacuum lines. 3/8" vacuum lines are not unusual. Edward

Yea I had it backwards, the larger a/c line is low pressure and smaller is high pressure. Like jock mentioned, one of the lines running across the timing cover is the pressurized fuel line and the one next to it is the return to tank and below that is the Evap line. The three of those are bunched together. How it is on mine.
