I'm running 33's with a body lift. 3.0 gas motor with auto transmission. No overheating when running. Had issue at park, but i think the radiator had dirt in the fins. Removed and cleaned it. All was fine after that.

Local mechanick are saying that it will overheat??? is it true? I am also planing to chip tune it as it it only 115bhp - diesel Welcome! 'Overheat'? No, it shouldn't overheat, as long as the vehicle is in good running condition. There are LOTs of people with 33" and 35"s with Monteros and Montero Sports (Pajero, Pajero Sport, Challenger, etc. outside the US) and some are running the diesel engine and I've never heard of anyone complaining of temperature issues. I run 31"s and 32"s on three of my Sports and 35"s on my big '97 Sport. It started out with 31"s, went to 33"s for several years and then switched to 35"s in '02 and that's what I've been running ever since (for 400K+ miles) and that vehicle is wheeled heavily in 100F degree temperatures. The only people that I know of that have had overheating issues with their Sports AFTER installing 'bigger tires' have been the couple over the years that have tried to do electric fan conversions and didn't do them correctly and 2-3 people that figured out that the issue was actually due to an externally plugged up condenser, externally plugged up radiator core, an internally clogged radiator core or other electronic issue. Oh, and one guy several years ago that didn't have the fan shroud installed. AFAIK, there isn't any practical way to 'chip' tune the Sport, and there aren't any kits like you can buy for the Chrysler Jeep, Ford pickups, etc. The Gen 1 with the ECM isn't tunable at any level - diesel, US, non-US or otherwise. The Gen 2 has a PCM that is accessible, but there aren't any maps for the PCM yet, and it IS NOT a trivial exercise. There's a US guy that is working on the US gasoline Sport, but that's not going to do you any good. Edward

Might not be a bad idea to check and see what diff ratios it is running.
What's the torque rating on those. Depending on the gearing it'll be slower than grandma on the highway with only 115bhp.
Torque gets things up and moving while hp keeps it moving, so to speak.

Probably the mechanic meant it could overheat if you abuse it wheeling with big tires.
As for tuning the diesel, some people here adjust the fuel pump. if done correctly it could give you an improvement. I saw a couple isuzu pick ups that could outperform cars in a 1/4 mile run after adjusting the pump but i dont know if that can be done with your engine since it has common rail injection.
HP is 115 TQ is 240 Nm (24,5 kgm) a 2000 rpm

Which makes performance not as bad as it might seem like it would be. Edward

Thanks averyone for answers, i was hoping to chip tune it with remap, thats been done here to that age of engines, will report if it is possible.
I am glad to hear that 33' is ok on montero sport.
One more question. Mechanicly mine sport is perfect 100k miles bu one previous owner, but having trouble with dasboard lights, door switch, reverse light switch, etc. Nothing important, but it is annoying. Is that normal?

Door switch as in the switch when you open the door the interior lights come on, or door switch as in the windows locks etc? I've had a couple of issues with both and have swapped them out pretty easily. I'd go through and double check fuses first. Mine had about 3 or 4 bad fuses when I got it for various items. And then habe swapped 2 of the door open switches, 1 window switch and next is the door lock switch. (It won't unlock, and randomly locks itself lol)

Ya the light on the compass is a PITA. I ordered extra ones from the dealer. The 97-99 Montero sports are awesome. I've kept up with 50-60k jeeps with tons of extras.
