I'm curious to know what does everyone one out there have in there Montero sports when it comes to sound system. I myself have a Kenwood Excelon double din with 2 12 inch Kenwood Excelon 12 inch shallow mount subwoofers on a 1000 watt Kenwood amp and 4 2 way Kicker 6.5 inch door speakers

I have a Jensen vx7022 double Din unit, since I needed GPS for me, and DVD for the kids, and wanted phone linking, and Bluetooth etc, and couldn't spring for the pioneer unit. Had it for 2 days now and still learning, but thus far does everything I have wanted it to do. For speakers, I'm running power bass 3way components up front and 2 way hifonics components to the back doors. 1 infinity 1220se sub (until I can build a fiberglass ed shallow mount into the false floor) it's highly efficient sounds good, and doesn't require a lot of power. It won't win any SPL competition but sounds crystal clear. I have a PPI black ice 5 channel amp running everything. The front 3 way. Rossovers are biamp capable so I can add more power to the front if the need arrises. I also added a back up camera. Still DE I ding what to run for rear screen or screens for the kids.besides the temporary sub, everything is hidden in glove box, or false back floor so I don't loose any interior space and keeping it simple looking.

I went with the Kenwood shallow mount is cause of me needing the space for when I go camping up in the mountains and I don't have the fake flooring in my Sport. I am planning on doing some custom fiberglass boxs for the cargo panels. As for the amp I have it under the driver seat. I have a non touchscreen stereo as I see no point in having one of all I use is Bluetooth.

I have a Pioneer AVH P2400BT double din with 6.5" 2 way Pioneer speakers in the doors, a Pioneer 600w amp and a Pioneer 12" 1000w sub in the back. I've always been fond to that brand and never had issues with it. That head unit has been with me since 2012 and this is the third vehicle I install it on. It doesnt break windows but it sounds pretty decent.

I've always loved Pioneer, they have great tuners, and never had any issues with any of their car audio stuff.

Has anyone messed with the tweeters and there location? I have been wanting to replace my factory ones.

I have an ordinary Sony bluetooth head unit, clarion 7-band eq/x-over/preamp, with infinity reference in the dash, components in the front door, with kappa perfects in the back doors ran off the factory amp and a 900w kenwood with 3 MTX 10's. I did have 3 infinity reference 10's but the surround blew off the cone on 2 of them. XS power battery, HO alt, and big 3 wired with 0 gauge and at some point will run the knuconcpets 0 gauge amp kit I have.

Since I'm into swapping the cabin for my MS (later this year), I have not installed everything yet, only the headunit and reverse camera ATM. Headunit Pioneer AVH-X5700DAB Focal component in front 165 AS3Boston Pro 6.5 2-way component rear (mid 90's vintage) Boston Pro 10.5LF sub (17 litres cabinet) Pioneer GM-X924 for the speakers in doors/front and not desided yet what monoblock for the sub. A descent DAB-antenna 3761.1 from Antennensysteme. Pioneer reverse camera. And some 30 metres something with speakercables, and a almost complete stripdown of interiour to make a proper installation. Just hopes it will not be too hard on my battery, as I do not have dual battery setup...

Pioneer 4200Nex head unit up front, with some cheapo JVC 6.5s in the doors and sound stream tweeters. Pushing Rockford Fosgate 12" Punch P3 with a Rockford Fosgate 300.1 amp.
Next upgrades will probably be headrest monitors so my daughter can see in the back seat and replacing the crap JVC door speakers with a nice set components and a 4ch amp.

Wow, now that's a real headunit! Alot of possibilities. As written above I have the AVH-X5700 unit, a far simpler unit but still working fine to control the screens to my kids (I have also a '06 Montero Dakar with same 5700 headunit and 2 10" screens at headrest). Stuff I miss like HDMI, dualzone and better format-compability You have in your unit. Actually I don't belive your unit or similar units is for sale here. I am looking for some kind of quick-release cable-connector for the sub. One connector/plug to disconnect both RCA and power, to easy lift out the sub when I need the space. I can of course mount the amp for sub permanent someplace and have a simple connector for the speaker cable, but I have not found a nice space to permanent mount a "large" amp/monoblock.

To be honest, I always wanted a touchscreen dvd player in my car, and I switched jobs last year to a different auto accessory shop that does sound systems and got a good price on it. Sold it to the wife as "it will be useful on road trips when our daughter when she gets a little older" lol.
Before this I never even had bluetooth in a vehicle, I was using the stock head unit with a speaker level converter to push the Rockford amp/sub, that all came with Monty when my wife got a new car and I inherited it from her, which explains why there are crap JVC's in the doors. I did replace the factory tweeters that were blown with some cheap Soundstream tweeters, because I got a good price on them also. But they are horrible sounding and will get replaced with a set of components up front.
For the quick disconnect thing, I was looking into doing something similar. I moved my amp to under my driver seat, which is honestly a terrible place for it because it gets exposed to all kinds of dirt and grime, but I got tired of sliding the amp around when I had to lay the seats down, disconnecting two speaker wires was easy to pull the sub out.
RCA cables are easy to pull, doubt you are going to find some sort of quick disconnect for those.
Metra makes all kinds of harnesses for the vehicle side and aftermarket side of head units, so you pick an old simple vehicle like a mid 90's GM and get the harness for the vehicle and for an aftermarket radio, wire it up matching all the wires so you have a quick connector for your speaker wires and remote wires.
For power and ground, I was thinking of getting a quick disconnect plug kit for a winch, they will accept wire between 2-4ga, which is plenty for a basic system.
So you could mount the amp to the speaker box, install these plugs, and to remove the whole thing you would unplug rca's, and two plastic connectors and boom you have all your cargo space back in 30 seconds or less.

Definitely a good brand to have! I had a pioneer compition single din stereo in my Xterra and I had it for 4 years. Has anyone messed with the tweeters and there location? I have been wanting to replace my factory ones. I replaced my tweeters with aftermarket ones with hotglue and a dremel to keep it factory looking, except you can clearly see the Soundstream spider logo through the grill. Besides sounding really harsh at the max levels, this is another reason I am ditching them. The factory tweeters have the grill clipped to the tweeter and use a metal backstrap attached with a screw in the middle of the tweeter that's applying pressure against the inside of the door panel. I separated the grill from the factory tweeter and made a template on the inside of the grill backing and used a dremel to make it fit the new tweeter nice and snug, and then installed it in the door panel with hot glue under the rim of the grill, and again on the back side of the door panel. The crossovers for these tweeters were small, so I hot glued them to the little pocket under the armrest.

Remember when swapping speakers the stock wires upfront have built in crossovers so of adding a second crossover it can mess with the sound stage.

Where is this tweeterlocation? I have only found the 6 1/2" in lower front of the doors, and space for some approx 4" midrange in the lower outer part of dashboard, but no space for tweeter. My thought is to mount some small 1 1/2" tweeters in the area where the door mirrors are, but is it any better places? Pictures would be lovely
