Hello everybody,
its a long time since I posted on this forum.
I have upgraded my Monty with a 2 inch suspension lift from Ironman as well as 31 inch tires.
I have recently had a problem with the 4x4 system. I had the flashing lights problem occasionally for a few years. As it did not occur frequently, I took no action against it.
Recently, I heard a loud grinding noise while driving which ended with a clunk when I slowed down. Online research made me conclude that this was the freewheel clutch trying to engage into 4x4 mode, which could be a result of a loss in vacuum.
I checked the actuator and the rod which seemed to be working perfectly. Then the vacuum control solenoids. The power supply to the solenoids also seems to be working all right, both the solenoids get battery voltage in 2 wheel drive. Both are off in 4 wheel drive.
I took off the solenoids and checked them separately. The yellow dot solenoid seems to work as I hear a click but the blue dot solenoid does not do anything. Also, I have a doubt as to whether the yellow dot solenoid stops working rarely, which may account for the grinding noise which I heard quite a few times but at fair intervals.
When I checked the actuator, I noticed that the rod disengages when vacuum is applied on the yellow hose and then the rod automatically moves in the other direction when this vacuum is taken off. Does that mean my 4x4 gets engaged without the support of a vacuum from the blue hose? (when the transfer lever is moved into 4H of course).
Working with this assumption, I bought a replacement for the yellow dot solenoid. (not the exact Msame model, but it works the same way). I fixed it and left the blue dot solenoid wires unplugged. This means that the actuator rod is properly in two wheel drive mode. So far the lights have been working as they should, in 4 wheel as well as two wheel. I have not heard the grinding noise either.
My question is that will the 4x4 engage properly when I go off roading? As the lights do not flash in two wheel drive, I'm pretty sure it disengages properly. Therefore, I wonder whether it will engage in 4 wheel drive. This is because I'm running on only one solenoid valve. When I switch into 4x4, there is no vacuum supplied to the actuator.
Thank you in advance,
Tharana
