I finally got some free time to replace the plugs and wires in my '00 MS 3.0L with some quality NGK wires and NGK iridium plugs. The previous owner had cheaped-out and installed some Auto Zone wires and the cheapest plugs they could get. I was hoping it would help with the power since it's just never been all that great. It improved greatly with a new timing belt and tensioner, but still lacked somewhat in power and would fall on it's face when accelerating. During the intake disassembly, I discovered this in the intake hose:
A 'tornado fuel saver' insert. It was actually in there sideways, so it certainly restricted airflow. I would never have expected to find something so stupid. Anyway, once I got it back together, the power difference is night and day. The crappy part is that I don't know whether replacing the parts made the majority of the difference or simply removing this idiotic device.
