I finally got some free time to replace the plugs and wires in my '00 MS 3.0L with some quality NGK wires and NGK iridium plugs. The previous owner had cheaped-out and installed some Auto Zone wires and the cheapest plugs they could get. I was hoping it would help with the power since it's just never been all that great. It improved greatly with a new timing belt and tensioner, but still lacked somewhat in power and would fall on it's face when accelerating. During the intake disassembly, I discovered this in the intake hose: A 'tornado fuel saver' insert. It was actually in there sideways, so it certainly restricted airflow. I would never have expected to find something so stupid. Anyway, once I got it back together, the power difference is night and day. The crappy part is that I don't know whether replacing the parts made the majority of the difference or simply removing this idiotic device.

You can always put the 'tornado fuel saver' back in to find out. My guess is that you had it right when you called it an "idiotic device".

Yes you're right, I could have put it back in, but after taking a couple of pics I tossed it to a corner of my shop and not sure where it is now. Wasn't very happy to discover it, so not going to waste any time trying to find it.
