I have followed every direction precisely and still it wont go into programing mode, I have switched the key 3 times from off to ACC... I have tried jumping pin #1 with cigarette lighter in case I did not have good ground on pin#4 and it still it did not work. I called dealer and they advised to use hazard signal, and, NO that did not work. Dose any one know if their is a fuse any where I need to check or anything I can look at to see if all wires are connected. P.S. I don't mind going to the dealer and paying them, I am in Alaska and the nearest one is 915 miles away from me, so I guess you all can imagine what I have to deal with. Thanks

if you have a limited, like me, no one has found the programming code for it. those other codes seem to work for early models, but not my 03 limited. i have a fob just sitting in a drawer cuz i could never get it to work either. sorry, man, i think we are SOL.

this is how you do it you insert key do not turn it on just put it in then ground pin 1 and press hazard switch 6 times the lock will cycle and then you press your fob lock button 3 times and it will lock then you remove the ground and key.

As I understand things, you have to have it done at the dealership. The '97-'99s (square two button fob) are user programmable but not the '00-'05. Never tried doing my '03 Limited. When I added a key and fob last month, I had the tech do it. Edward

I've successfully programmed 2 new fobs for my 2001 MS Ltd. Will look for my instructions...

I think this is how I did it. I do remember having to turn the ignition key on and off very quickly 3 times to get this procedure to work.

Are we talking key fobs or keys. Think the right up pertains to the key fobs. If you have two keys you can program another. If only one key you have to take it to the dealer. Expensive and inconvenient but keeps just anyone from programming duplicates. Think most locksmiths can do it to.

Expensive and inconvenient but keeps just anyone from programming duplicates. Think most locksmiths can do it to. According to the Mitsu docs, you can have up to three keys/fobs programed to a single vehicle. '00-'05. Dealership just sent me the docs a couple weeks ago. The docs didn't say what the number of fobs were for the '97-'99. The '97-'99s don't have the security module, so they don't have 'chipped' keys. The key has to be programed to the security module. You can not do this yourself. There is not magic key presses or ignition on sequence. The security module is also programed to the PCM so you can't mix and match anything there, either. A MUT is required to change either of these. I've never found a locksmith that can do more than cut a key for the '00-'05. Edward

A lot of other cars allow you to. I have two valet keys but have to program them after each use.

The Mitsu security stuff is a little weird compared to a lot of other manufacturers. I spent a couple years on the GT/Eclipse/EVO/Galant/etc. boards going through ECM/PCM stuff. There seemed to be a lot of 'what do you mean I can't do that?!? I could on everything else I've owned!' My favorite useless messed up 'security feature' is still the security code on the '90s stereo head. I remember joking with the techs years and years ago - 'Yo! Dog! Its a Montero!! We should steal THAT stereo! That's go to be worth a lot of money!' lol!! Edward

Right. Well in all fairness I guess stealing car stereos was the thing to do in the 80's and 90's.
