Sorry, I haven't noticed a whistling. I notice a sucking sound though. Love it! Suck that air! Then blow it out the back! lol!

Hello Everyone! I've used this site in the past and just became a member. I noticed a lot of you have come up with pretty inventive ways to install short ram intakes on your vehicles. I have a 2001 Montero sport with the 3.5L engine and am having trouble finding a compatible intake. Even though its rather pricey I was looking at the injen is1850p. The only problem is that it says can only be installed on the 3.0L engine. Is this true or can it be used on the 3.5L. I would appreciate any help you guys could give me.

Total with the air filter and adapter I paid 33 dollars, O'reileys has the adapter, the 'Spectre 81403' was 12 bucks and the filter was 20. I used the stock set up, minus the airbox

didn't want to start a new thread but do any of you guys that have done this mod notice a whistling sound when driving? i recently did this mod and noticed a whistling sound only when driving at 2,700-3k rpm just want to make sure its not just me losing vacuum pressure haha...now that you mention it; I DO notice a whistling sound right around 50-60 mph (roughly 2500 to 3200 (don't remember) rpm) since my monty is a manual . But, yes very good observation, I always wondered what that might be whenever it came up. Wow it took all this time....

buy the maf adapter like what i have and dont buy the crappy spectre universal fit one, look on ebay for the black pastic one with filter for 20$ shipped and it recieves the factory holes and bolts for a great fit, i got rid of my spectre adapter cuz it sucked. now with the new one on, no issues, and you can keep that factory maf trim on as well without removing the filter element on the front and allowing false air readings to your MAF= worse MPG's

Did the spectre adapter affect the performance of the intake set up at all? I dont see the benefit of buying the expensive one, other that the asthetic aspect?

i used this guy right here, cut it to fit, has the neck to attach back to your crankcase for the vent tube, a piece of aluminum to mount to your maf adapter. or use the filter from this kit and just buy the plastic maf adpater listed above, found one used for 3$ Uploaded with ImageShack.usUploaded with ImageShack.us

sounds like a maf leak, put sealant around the adapter or get one of the custom fit ones off ebay
