Hey Guys, I want to lift the rear end of my sport about 1.5-2" and it seems that there are basically NO kits available for leaf sprung Sports. Overlander makes one but it only nets 1" of lift and Ive heard that the springs sag back to stock height pretty quickly. Another option ive seen is to buy extended shackles. I am just curious if there may be a specific kit for a sport out there? I could have sworn someone was running an "Ironman Lift Kit" , I emailed the manufacturer and they never got back to me. For those with the shackle lift what part #s did you use and did you have to do any fabrication to make it fit? Also any issues with brake hose lengths or anything else? Thanks for the help!

Your right, "Ironman Lift Kit" is the only other Lift Kit. I went the shackle rout. I picked up the shackles at 4 Wheel Parts part #1084. And I got new longer shocks for the rear, Rancho 9000 (RS 9125's). I guess they stopped making the Rancho 9000 now. No I didn't have to do any real fabrication to make them fit. I just added some washers to make it a snug fit and I didn't use the bolts that came with the kit. They are too fat to fit through the bushings. Besides the bolts that come with the kit aren't a grade 8 bolt anyway. There are no issues with the brake hose lengths if you lift you sport 2 or 3". Hey Skid, Hate to be a pain but could you please give me a little more detail in the install? I have never worked on suspension before and I want to get it right the first time and not figure it out on the side of a trail Did you reuse your old shackle bolts/bushings and use a few washers to make things fit snug? What kind of washers did you use? Also did you get 2" of actual lift or was a little less after a while? I have heard that shackle lifts usually dont net alot of lift ...also were there any other issues? I plan on taking lots of pics of the install and point by point instructions once I get it done. Thanks for the help man! PS: Are these the shackles you bought? www.4wheelparts.com/product2.asp?imseqn=2031&occlass=GSP%2DSH&cat=SUS82-85 4WD P/U & 4-Runner 2" Lift Front only

Just a question here. How good are spacers? I really haven't heard anything either way.

What I mean is spacers between the axle and leafs. I've seen pick ups with them. I bought a Dodge in the 80's and it had them. I sold it in '98 and as far as I know it still has it. I've seen those spacers for about $15.

Hey Joel, Are you out there man? I saw on a few sites that you have used the OME leaf spring kit in the rear of your rig. How is that working out? Did they sag? How much did you actually get? Thanks

Well, you can't use lifting blocks because the leaf springs are under the axle not on top like most big pick up trucks. By the way, spacers are used in the front IFS to increase your down travel. But they can create a lot of problems from what I have heard. Steve Just a question here. How good are spacers? I really haven't heard anything either way.

Sorry I didn't see your reply sooner. Anyway. No, I bought washers and new bolts from Lowes. Grade 8 of course. The new shackles are slightly wider then the stock shackles. The only thing to be careful of is don't rip off the brake line when you have the axle maxed down when it's disconnected from the shackles. You will have do disconnect your sway bar in rear too, to do the install. Yep, I got 2" of lift. The second one from the bottom on the linked page seems to be the one I bought. They are the same number as I gave earlier. skidplate4x4.tripod.com/shackles.html Steve Hey Skid, Hate to be a pain but could you please give me a little more detail in the install? Skidplate98,
What size shocks would be good after the lift is done? You have Rancho 9000s but they don't make them anymore. I may do this as well and want to upgrade shocks (front and back) when I do this. Thanks

For the rear they should be the same number name as RS 9125's at lest the last part "125". I will have to look on my shocks for the Part # for the front. I don't have the OME lift kit on my truck...I actually went the extended shackle route as well. I am using the OME shocks though...you can seen the installed shackles in full detail by clicking on the link in my signiture...

I am just about to order the shackles but I just want to make sure I have all my bases cover before the install. As you can tell Im pretty much a newbie when it comes to car mechanics and I am having my mechanic friend help me out. Here is what I have so far: 1) Jack the truck up and place jackstands on the frame near the left and right spring packs. 2) Lower the truck onto the stands 3) Jack up the rear diff so the wheels are still off the ground. 4) Remove the stock shackles 5) Disconnect the swaybar 6) Lower axle until the tires touch the ground again 7) Install the new shackles onto the upper perches on the frame using ( Grade 8 size? bolts and washers ) 8) Jack the axle back up so the spring bushings ( Do you reuse your old OEM bushings? ) go in between the new shackle's lower mounts. 9) Put the grade 8 bolt thru the spring and bushing and bolt on using factory torque specs. 10) Lower vehicle Does that sum it up? Any other pointers? Thanks! Pete
