I did the transmision flush in the dealer today. $200, and the truck is running good. but they found that my oil seals in the camshaft are leaking in the alternator. $40 in parts, $944 in labor...
netherless to say, i bought the parts, and im thinking in tackle this job by myself and/or getting an expert mechanic to help me in the last part.
the last time, i changed the gaskets in the covers and replaced sparkplugs and cables. timing belt, other belts and water pump i left the work to pepboys.
so... what do you think? should i be able to do this on my own? can you tell me if i need any special tool to get before start taking the engine apart?
does anyone have some pics and or tips that can help in the process?
ill check the manual later tonight.
thank you

Well it requires the Timing belt to be torn down because the seal is behind the cam sprocket. When your ready to take on this job just check out the DIY on Timing belt replacement. to only special tools you will need will be a cam sprocket holder this is what I use and it will work for the crank pully and cam sprocket. www.usatoolwarehouse.com/usatoolwarehouse/OTC-6613.html

Thanks for the messages guys. I am currently working on my timing belt and water pump change too . I also am thinking about changing the cam seals... BUGGZY, may you kindly also let me have your DIY of the timing belt replacement, you've contributed a lot in this forum that I do appreciate it truly. May you also let me know if it is just OK to just change or just open the front of the waterpump(propeller- bearing)? I didn't bother removing the whole waterpump, just the front of it? My email is lubedynamics@aol.com
Thank you very much for your help BUGGZY... actually everybody in this forum, THANKS ALSO... I appreciate all you inputs.
TO: PICAFLOR, I also suggest, if you buy parts from the dealer, you may also wanna check PARTS.COM and they also offer discounted parts compared to dealer.

Yes Buggzyy.....pls post the Timing Belt/Water pump in the DYI section as Ill be doing this over the summer. I have the manual...but would love to see some actual pics/issue you encountered during the repair. As well as any other recommendations of parts that should be changed during this work.
I am planning on doing the Timing belt, water pump, thermostat and radiator flush all in the same project. Should I be looking to throw anything else in the mix???
thanks
