my check engine light came on with the code P0300 random misfire recently after changing my front cam seals to stop a oil leak, in the process of course as everyone knows i had to take off the timing belt to get to the cam seals
once i got the p0300 for the first time i just disconnected the coils and re plugged them and disconnected the neg batt terminal.... the code did not show up until 100+ miles later
now i have the p0300 code again, where to start now?
one thing i like to add, don't know if it pertains, the sensor? under driver cam was covered in oil... not the crank pos sensor near crank sprocket.... i don't know what the senor near driver cam is but thought i might add the info
edit: i guess that sensor is cam pos sensor, is there a way to check if it is operational, don't want to have to install a new one if unnecessary

The sensor is working because the engine starts. it will run if you disconnect that sensor after the engine is running. I would have to say you may have the belt off a tooth if anything. start there

thanks buggzyy you have been really helpful with the oil leak and now this
UPDATE: i didn't want to check timing belt because it would take time to take everything off so i checked the coil packs
all of my secondary resistance are within standard value but NONE of my primary coils are within standard value passenger side 1.5ohm , middle 4.5ohm , driver side 1.5ohm standard value for primary coil is .74-.90ohm
so question is are all of my primary coils done or just the middle one? and what bank is the middle one because parts only have bank 1 and bank 2 listed? thank you

I belive all the coils are split and fire to both bank 1 & 2.

is the coil the problem?
MD314583 is this the part #, and why is it so expensive compared to MD314582.... is it because i get to coils does anyone know oem maker for ignition coil? and does the brand matter? thanks

well looks like now all three primary tests at 1.5 ohm... still above standard value .74-.90hm but i pulled that off the free service manual so don't know if it is really correct for a 2002 xls
can someone verify standard value for primary coil
how would i test to see if crank and cam pos sensor are good are there values in ohms or volts that i could test for?
any help would be appreciated, i would like to test the easily accessed items first before having to spend acouple of hours taking the timing belt off again if that is the problem
