I'm going to try to find a replacement transmission at a you-pull-it rather then rebuild mine. To make it easier to find I'm wondering if there are any other vehicles that share the same transmission as my 2000 Sport XLS 4-wheel drive. Thanks in advance!

You can find the a little plate in the center of the firewall that identifies the transmission. The v4a51 is only in Montero's. If you have the Aisin Warner 30-43LE, there's a good list of doners.

Hmm. Interesting list. Would it not be possible to use an aisin warner in a 00 and up sport without having to change PCM and a list of other components. Both trans used the same engines. Should could use the overdrive on the highway.

4th on the v4a51 is ~.73 so I doubt you would notice much of a difference. But I am also curious if it is an easy swap because the Aisin Warner is so much more common.

Mine is a 4wd so I'm assuming none of those will work, right? I will check the sticker in the morning and see which transmission it is.

Unless Mitsubishi is special, the only difference between a 4WD tranny and a 2WD tranny is a Transfer case or a drive cone (I think that is what they are called). T-Case would just bolt up from one tranny to the next as long as they are the same tanny. If you did a swap to the Aisin-Warner then you would need the T-Case for that one, or vice versa. However you would need to find a 4WD trans or have to switch out put shafts.
Again someone with more Mitsubishi specific knowledge might know better, as this is just basic Transmission information.

I thought I remembered from somehwere that an old member had used the np-231 xcase that is commonly found on jeeps with his aisin warner. Output shaft matched up, just need to change the coupling from the xcase to the front axle. Dont quote me on that though, I'll see if I cant dig up the details.

Interesting output shafts would maybe be different spline count, however might not since Mitsubishi and Chrysler were in bed together when that xcase was being used.... Interesting.
I have always felt there should be a sticky of quick parts match up from different vehicles to the particular forum's main vehicle type.

dannytuned used to be on here and he was the guy I was talking about. He did a sas on his sport and has a trans doubler for low low range.
