MS 145k miles. Original owner. I am getting ready to service the tranny again. Here in CO one dealership charge me $270.00 for flushing it but they did not recommend changing the filter because of the way they do the service. They refer to a backflow service and that will be enough to clean the filter. Is this true or you guys recomend changing the filter as well? Thank you for your responses.

I have a 2000 Montero Sport XLS and the standard answer to your question is a drain/fill is recommended over a power flush. Generally, best to keep some of the original fluid in circulation. I bought a case of KIA/Diamond SPIII for under a $100 and did a drain/fill myself. Dropping the pan and changing the filter can be a plus, too. At 145k, I would say you were due, but I'm at the same mileage and haven't changed my filter yet.

160K on my '01 Sport Ltd. and just changed my filter a month ago. The filter element was unrecognizable, as were the magnets. Beware of using an ATP B225 filter that's advertised as fully compatible. It looked almost identical to the one I pulled out, but the extended inlet tube wouldn't allow the pan to be reinstalled!

If so, I'd be inclined to do what they tell you. If not, I'd give them a call and tell them Edward sent you. Get Johnny or Jamie's opinion. They're good people and know their stuff. Edward

I actually ended up getting a flush service as they advice w/o changing the filter. Now my transmission is running smooth. Thanks for responses.
