Ok fellas, just what we always wanted but couldn't find. Real projector headlights for our MS. Other than my sport, I'm also a Honda fan and have found a reputable tuning shop that had answered our prayers. They take high end HID projectors, disassemble and retrofit them in our oem housings and then re-seal them. These guys have done the research on HID lighting and have been doing this service for some time now. I am going to take the plunge after Christmas, etc. Cost is about $315-320 for the kit and $150 for the service. I have already talked to them about our forum and will try I work out a deal after we successfully do mine. www.inlinefour.com/maelmid2srek.html

Has there been any updates on this? I am interested in retrofitting my MS headlights to projector style. I just posted it this last week. I purchases an extra set of items for the project and am waiting till after Christmas to do mine as I will pave the way for all of us. I've been follow il4 on Facebook, and they disasemble other HID ballasts to show the quality of what they are selling. They have already done the research. Let me know if you want to do this before me, I'll set you up with them. You can totally see the difference in the focused beam compared to a stock bulb.

I did a retrofit on mine a few months ago. It was my third retrofit I have done. If you guys are interested check out theretrofitsource.com. They have all the parts you need to do this. I used the mini d2s kit with the 50 watt ballasts. Also check out hidplanet.com if you are serious about doing it yourself. I would post some pics if I knew how. I just have a tablet at the moment.

I should clarify, it is my first retofit on the ms. I have done one on both of my mercedes. One that I sold to get the ms. I'll download that app and try it out. This retrofit only took about 8 hours. Usually when i do it I buy a set of aftermarket headlights so I can take my time and if I screw something up I can still drive the car. I did it on the stock lights this time because I was cheap, but fairly confident I could tackle it quickly. I also have a third car I could drive just in case. The only difficult thing about the way I did it, was dealing with the sealant on the stock lights, that was some tough stuff and didnt want to let the lens come off. That and just the crazy way mitsubishi decided to secure our headlights to the car. Other than that it was pretty straight forward. I would just warn about using cheap parts. I would use factory ballasts if possible like denso or hella, and good quality bulbs.

Incredibly bad iphone pics. But hey that photobucket app worked ok SSSIIIIIIIIIIIICK!!!!!!!!!! I'm pumped up to do this now!!! Nice job man, and here I thought I was being a pioneer. Props for the DIY. Yeah I already bought an extra set of OEM's. I'm planning in painting the inside grey piece black and pulling the Orange lens. I was going have the grey piece covered in carbon fiber, but figured that would cost waaaay too much. Did you have to pull the bumper to get the headlights out? Or just the grille?

Yea I painted the gray part inside the headlight black too, it is a subtle change but I like it. I decided to leave the orange reflectors, I wasn't sure how I would like just having the bulbs visible.
You just have to remove the grill to get the headlight out, but two of the bolts you have to get to are in the fender well. You have to pull back part of the liner to get to them. Kind of a pita.
I went with the 50 watt morimoto ballasts from the retrofitsource.com. if I had to do it over I would probably just go with the standard 35 watt ones. I'm very worried about blinding other drivers, which was one of the reasons for me to get into doing retrofits. The ms sits up pretty high and if you are at a light at an angle the 50 watt ballasts can really blind someone. So I have them aimed pretty low to avoid this.
The healight housings are big enough that the ballasts fit nicely under the reflector, and the back of the headlights closed up nicely just like stock. If you run into any issues just ask, I would be happy to help out however I can.

Here is another I snapped tonight at the gas station. I just cleaned the headlight, please excuse the soapy mess. I think if I was to do anything different...I would paint the entire inside of the housing black, reflector and all. I think it would look cool. And if any light escapes around the shroud it wouldn't reflect or cause glare.

Reviving this old post, the retrofit looks great. Has anyone attempted this on the 97-99 MS?
