I imagine ED! Lol;D speaking of losing things what roof rack would you recommend that is a full length roof rack and is short not tall like surcos are. I am getting tired of the surco not being a full length roof rack and it being too dang tall.

... what roof rack would you recommend that is a full length roof rack and is short not tall like surcos are. I am getting tired of the surco not being a full length roof rack and it being too dang tall. I used Garvin. Awesome rack! Extremely well built. Also extremely heavy. BUT ... Its the same height as what you already have. You can build one that's "full length" but you'd have to use the drip mounts. I think that would work ok. The stock rails aren't long enough to support the front of the rack. And, it'd weigh probably close to 100 lbs. I think mine was 80 lbs - rack and hardware. Took two people to get it on and off the vehicle. I've seen a rack out there but I don't know who makes it or if it would even fit. Its about 3-4" tall and looks about 1-1.5' longer than yours. Sits low. I don't know how it works but its looks pretty sturdy. I THINK its aluminum. I only see them when I'm on the road so its hard to tell. Otherwise, I don't have any brilliant ideas. It was hard to find a good rack 10-15 years ago. That was why I settled on the Garvin. Now that my primary concern is to keep the CG as low as possible, I don't pay much attention to racks. Wouldn't mind one for the new '99 when its done but other than adding weight, I don't know what I'd use it for. <edit> Ok. Wow. That's scary. I thought I'd take a look at Garvin's site. I haven't looked at their stuff in years. I think I paid about $400 for my entire system. Over $1000 now. Crazy. Edward

WOW!! That's a lot! I found a defender roof rack that is 5 ft wide by 7 ft long. That says it fits a 04 Montero sport. How do the gutter mounts work without causing leaks? I'm not a body shop expert either.lol Sent from my SM-N900V using proboards

Just an additional note about synthetic winch cable... The drum itself may need replaced. Synthetic cable slides easier and will continue to tighten on a drum. This can cause the middle of the drum to compress or "coke bottle". Metal cable will spool onto the drum and not shift. Warn recommends replacing stamped metal drums (for metal cable) with stronger cast metal drums (for synthetic cable). I understand that replacing a drum is a lot more involved than just replacing cable.

Read one of my previous posts. It talks about my winch being synthetic friendly.

The ARB Bull Bar - the only commercially available bumper I'm aware of still available - takes the Warn XD9000. Warn sells that winch with the option of having their synthetic line. Also the 9.5xp (which does NOT fit in the ARB, BTW). 1) The heat thing is blown WAY out of proportion. NO ONE is using their Sport as a commercial recovery vehicle. I've done multiple pulls with my XD9000 - about the same as anyone on here would normally do - and it doesn't even get warm to the touch. 2) 'A stamped steel drum.' Do they have a 'disgusted' smiley? Never stopped sinking the entire time I was setting up and pulling out. 20 miles from the highway. 100+ degrees. Wife and two young kids along. 2 weeks after incident before the park service could get this far. Why you don't cheap out on recovery gear. Edward

WOW!! That's a lot! Yea, like I said, crazy. I don't know either. I've only used the track mount pedestals. Do you have a link for that rack? Edward

Edward That's quite a bit of headroom even with the added weight which is good. When you do it right there isn't much to worry about however, lots of people bare bones it to cut cost for items they may or may not have to use. Plus the sports do not get stuck very often

Here is the light bar. BRIGHT BRIGHT BRIGHT is it at night!!! I am kind of tired of the Carr light bar so I am currently looking for different mounts for it. I am really surprised at the quality of the kit. Really good quality. Ed the rack was a smittybilt and looks to be the exact length I am looking for. Let me know what y'all guys think.;D Addendum!!! Surco currently sells a 50"x84" safari rack. So I will be ditching the Carr light bar for sure. I will try to head toward gutter mounts as well. Although I will have that installed seeing it HAS HAS to be waterproof! I do quite enjoy the strength and how light the surco racks are. ;D Sent from my SM-N900V using proboards Attachments:
