Actually, any of the Mits model FIPK kits will work with the MS provided it's not a 1.5L Mirage..... In other words, the MassAirflowSensor bolt pattern in each of our cars are exactly the same- you can take your pick of the litter and bolt it right on. Of course, you'll need to fabricate your own mounting system for the filter (which can be quite easily) I'd suggest the FIPK kit for the 3000GT since it has the biggest overall conical filter of the bunch. That's the kit i'm using... FIPK kit shown with a Injen Technologies intake tubeHere's a better picture taken during the day with a HKS SuperMegaFlow Aircleaner I switched back to the KN filter cause it filtered much MUCH better than the HKS (based on my "white glove" wipe test of the inside of the Injen pipe) Joel, CA

Thanks Joel. I know I can always count on you to clear things up. So, does modifying the intake really affect HP and throttle response? I mean will I notice a difference starting out from a red light to green, for example? Thanks

I'd have to say Yes to that one- though it's not anything that I really tested with any science or numbers behind it. Going by feel is my only method of verifying any gains and I have noticed greater initial throttle response as well as better high RPM breathing. If you notice in the picture, i have completely removed the factory air cleaner housing (even the lower half). There's no better compliment to an freebreathing intake, than an exhaust system - so keep that in mind.

Joel, So after reading your comment the exhaust would definitely compliment the whole she-bang. I guess that leads me to my final question and the one that is on my mind the most: Will modding the exhaust and adding an FIPK kit hurt your gas mileage? In other words, will you have to pay more at the pump because the car's engine is running a richer mixter of air? By the way, your car looks awesome with that rack on the top and your injen intake with the K&N filter looks cool too. PS. How much did modding your intake and exhaust set you back monitarily [glow=green,2,300]$$$[/glow]? Thanks for all your help in advance. Once I get my fog lights and rear air deflector installed I'm sending a pic of my MS to Jay. Maybe I might even win MS of the month?

Joel,
Can you just install the K&N conical air filter with the stock air intake? Or do you have to get the injen also? Btw, what is the part number for the filter?

You can use the stock rubber intake tube if you chose. There's absolutely no need to go with the Injen Intake tube if you don't want to.

Joel, Nice job on your intake. Do you or does anyone know if there is an "out of the box" intake that will fit the 3.5 V6 that I have in my Limited? Everywehre I turn I can only find intakes for the 3.0 V6. Or, will I have to do some sort of custom fab to get the desired results? TIA Tom

Ronab, If u dont get a tube u will still have the 2 little air boxes that are on ur stock tube. U can go to home depot and get pvc caps(used in plumbing) that fit in the holes and remove the boxes. Or u can get a spectra intake tube for a honda civic (i belive) they will carry them at some autozones and cut it down a little to fit. I cant rember the spectra part # but there is a writeup about it at 4x4extremesports.com. That is what I did. Clay

Clay,
exactly what are those boxes for and why do I have to remove them? I thought after the stock rubber intake and MAF sensor, I can just remove the air filter element housing and just connect the conical filter...at least thats what I gathered...
Anyway, my service repair CD is in the mail, so I can start doing some mods without screwing something up...

btw...It's weird to me that so many people on this forum upgrade their air intake to the FIPK kit, but there isnt a DIY for it..............

Well I have a 2001xs with a 3.5L engine and the stock tube had 2 little air boxes thet hung down from the bottom of the intake tube. I removed them because the point of a aftermarket intake is to increase air flow so why leave something that was going to divert or change the path of the air. Clay

the spectre part # is 8219 for a honda civic and acura integra. U would also have to get a MAS adaptor. Clay
