My car is pretty dirty, but I decided to go ahead an take some pictures to show you guys my front bumper grill I did awhile back. It's still not totally completed though... The last picture is eventually what I want it to look like...I just slapped on some black electrical tape and took a pic. I'm still trying to figure out how to get that 'brow' look that evos have above the intercooler grill. I'll probably just get a piece of plastic and paint it, except I'm not quite sure where to get the paint from/how to paint it. I might have to order some touch up paint from Mitsubishi, but that still leaves the question on how to paint it so it looks nice.

looks good. i think you should black out the chrome. paint the strips under your headlights. i faked a dif lower grill, though i liked your too.

painting the chrome grill is a really good idea! might try to do that if i can figure out how to take it out. not sure if i can do the other painting cause it's gonna be hard enough for me to paint a piece of plastic to go over the original license plate holes. the license plate was relocated because i have a dent right there. plus it looks jdm.

bwimports,
Where did you get the mesh for the grill? More importantly, where did you get the piece that goes around the edges of the mesh?? I've been wanting to do this but I couldn't find a good place to get the materials that I need.

i got the mesh from home depot and spray painted it glossy black. brackets, screws, and 'window molding' were at home and spray painted those at well. i couldn't find the rubber stuff at home depot though. the mesh was silver and the rubber stuff was yellow if that helps any.

Are they the gutter guards? I have a roll of the galvanized one! I don't think paint will adhere to this stuff well. If the window molding is rubber, paint won't last very long on it and will soon start cracking. I was thinking of using those plastic door guards from Pep-Boys. They go along the edge of the doors to protect them from being chipped if a door swings open and hits something.

haha no, it's not the gutter guards, but i know exactly what you are talking about! i saw those there myself, but they aren't long enough to go across. i ended up getting a sheet of mesh the size of a plywood board. i believe the stuff is used for patching stuff up. when i used the pressure washer on the mesh, it did strip away the paint. the paint on the rubber stuff took a long time to dry (at least a week). when the weather clears up, i'm just going to unscrew it from the outside and repaint it, no big deal.
btw, those wheels look hot! my color scheme isn't the same as yours so it wouldn't look good on mine though.

I am thinking of getting this. It's already black so no painting. Since the 03' lower valance opening is diff on mine, the plastic middle part can be dremeled off with less cutting. Then I can use hot glue to fasten the new mesh grill from behind. I think that in order to do this correctly, the front bumper cover must be removed since there's really no way to get behind there from the bottom or from the top, even with the top front grill is removed. I'm also planning on putting the mesh grill behind the fog openings. Then I'll mount a nice set of round PIAA foggers behind it. The mesh conceils the foggers until they come on at night! I'm working on a photoshop rendition of this right now. I"ll post when done. BTW, thanks for the complement.

Not a very good photoshop but I'm sure you got the idea....

how is the license plate bolted on? you might have to worry about covering the holes for that.
i wouldn't recommend hot glue. it wouldn't last on my car when i top out at 110mph. i hand wash my car all the time, if i decide to take it to a car wash, i'm going to unbolt the grill.

If you look at my sig pic, the license plate is bolted on the bumper itself. My Montero doesn't have the same bumper indentation as yours do. If I take off the license plate, there are two screw holes for the license plate to bolt onto. Do you drive your Montero up to 110mph?? I'd never go that fast on mine! As for hot-gluing the mesh on, perhaps epoxy would work better.

i think it tops out at 110. i've done it a bunch of times on long straights, but don't go any faster. it's kinda unstable. if i was going down a slight decline, maybe it might go a little faster. pics i just took today. you can see a little bit of the paint on the grill has flaked off when i used a pressure washer to clean it. changed my side window decal from bwimports to teckademics too.

last nite i shaped a mold for a solo seat on my girls bike, using foam used for insulation. so today after brainstorming on the way to werx i came up with an idea to make a new grill using the same foam to shape and them fibeglassing it. im going to play with it soon. i was just wondering if anyone would be interested in such a thing, cuz i can make a mold and pop out more if u like the design. chances are they would be around 2 bills, i would have to see how long it takes to make. and they will need to be painted. so it aint a easy bolt on. lata oz
