So i thought i'd start compiling information for those of you wishing to swap some engines in the future. this is a lot of stuff i've found and i just want it all to be in the same spot
engine will bolt up. complications that arise are following..
Tstat housing, water pump and water hoses connect to the rear of the heads on a 3kgt, which means you have to use the montero waterpump etc
AC pump is located on the lower passenger side on the DOHC engine, accessory brackets from montero might have to be transfered over.
intake manifold- 3kgt intake puts the TB facing the firewall, SO you can use a 3g eclipse GTS upper plenum, that will put the TB near the battery, facing forwards on a montero or using the stock montero upper plenum, pointing towards the passenger side fender just like stock.
dip stick, on the stock engine its on the driverside, on the 3kgt it's on the passenger side which means if there's complications with the oil pan i might have to modify the oil pan or modify the montero oil pan to fit the DOHC engine.
exhaust manifolds are different, so obviously something is going to need to be fabricated.
I think i should be fine with the stock ECU as long as i run premium. im going to look into that a little more.
anyhow, thats all for now.

nice man!! Over the months here viewing the site there has been many good info from you guys on thangs we could do to current engine and what could work useing a replacement. A real 3000gt engine would be sweet I wonder how much power to ground we could get with it in monty. I like to eventually see a american engine thrown in it ford/chevy or even a mopar hemi. I hope to see someone acutually put a replacement engine in

dont forget about the size of heads and the master cylinder and pump that i was mistakenly calling the bell housing. also if u wanted u could get the heads ported and polished by rpw and they have up to stage 3 cams and headers. could get even more power out of the 3.5 block with the 3k heads or get the 3.5 built with higher comp pistons or punch out the 3L 3k engine. as i said sounds like fun. who sayz there r no options for the sport? Does the montero ECU have the ability to control ignition timing? reading from coolant temp, intake temp, etc?
montero sport LS does not have a knock sensor so it cant control timing off of pre-ignition. if i use the 3kgt ecu i'll need to add in knock sensor wiring. which isnt a problem but if the car has the ability to control timing a little then i might get by easily on the montero ecu since i'll be running 93 octane all the time.

Oh and the dipstick goes into the oil pan, not the block, which means if i need to i can easily swap oil pans and have my original dipstick/oil pan. So thats one problem eliminated.

i know there is no way for us to change the timing. there is no reflash 4 it but u can have it sent out and reprogramed (remove speed limiter) at jet performance. clay
