I've been thinking abotu trying to swap my 3.0 for a 3.5 but how hard is this going to be. Does anyone know if everything will bolt up or not? Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Be prepared to pull out your wallet. It would be cheaper to put a supercharger on.

Seriously doubt that, you could get motor, ecu, harness from a junkyard for less than $1000. not sure what year he has but should bolt up to the 3.0 trans, if not add 200 or 300 extra for the 3.5 trans. Any sc kit will be 2 or 3 times that.

Not only would you need a 3.5 engine, harness, tranny, ECU. but you would also have to replace the dash and the shifter. Not to mention the long list of small stuff. I would rather do a supercharger or turbo. Procharger is in the works for me. You would also have a bigger gain in HP with a supercharger or turbo vs just an engine swap. Although I am not sure of the compression ratio on the stock pistons so you might only be able to have a small boost.

I just dont see why you would swap out a 3.0 for a 3.5 for very minimal gains when a supercharger or turbo would have much more playing room. Just my 2 cents.

Thank you guys for all the input it was really helpful. I talked to a guy from a speed shop in florida and he said that he could fab up everything i would need to make a turbo kit for my montero sport. I will post updates on the process if i decide to go through it.

Speaking of swapping, has anyone ever tried ripping the 3.0, its tranny and transfer case out and changing to diesel with a different tranny and transfer case? I've got half a mind to do it, just no money yet.

Yes I was building up and engine for mine but think a diesel would be better.
