Hi! after searching the forum I can see alot of posts on wheel offset, but none of them really answers my question.. Which is:
I have the 99 Montero Sport GLS (Europe) (the one with flares..) And I was wondering what the offset should be on an 16x7 / 16x8 rim if I want the wheel to flush with the flares? I do have 16x7 rims on it now, but they seem to place the wheel on the inside of the flares by 2-3inches.. Hope this makes sence to anyone in here.. Thanks in advance for any tips..

I just put a set of Level 8 Striker 6 wheels on my 2000 MS. They are 16x8.5 I also have a set of 265/70/16 Cooper A/T3 tires on them. these new wheels set the tire out even with the fender flares on my MS. I was a little worried once I ordered my wheels because it said that they had a 0 inch back space! But luckly! they back spacing was the same as my stock wheels that I took off. It gave the extra inch and a half on the front of the wheel! I hope yhis helps! I ordered my wheels from Discount Tire Direct! They had a $100 rebate deal going on so I got my wheels for $340 and free shipping! Keep an eye out and you can fine some good deals with them!

Like I learned on my Honda.... Offset is everything, and it sounds like if you come up short, avoid spacers at all costs..... I wish I had a # for you, i just got lucky and they are pretty close to the edge of the flare.... You are on the right path because width means nothing if you dont get offset.... I would buddy up with a shop or co for some test fitment.....

I would say 0 offset will have the wheel face sit flush with the fender flares but may vary on wheel design but will be very close to flush. I was running a 265/70/16 tire and the wheels were 16x8 0 offset.
