I also took it on the interstate and floored it and the tick didn't get any worse or better. It has no problems with driving or heavy acceleration. It still gets up and goes perfectly. I always do regular oil changes before or at 3000 miles. It started when it was cold outside 45F on halloween morning and hasn't stopped ticking since then.

I just did a motor flush "motor medic", oil change "Valvoline Max Life 10w30" with "v6 restore" and a "purolator one" oil filter. Still no change with the noise. I also added gumout octane booster to the gas. Could it be the t-belt tensioner because I got it from advance auto parts? It's a year and a half old. The noise is coming from the passenger side of the engine and as I said before oil changes are always and have been performed on time.

... Did you keep track of WHICH plugs were oil fouled? Edward They were all fouled but cylinder 6 was the worst. It sounds like a tick from the top passenger side but when I get underneath it sounds more like a knock. Sigh. Never easy. Yea, that's why I suggested the stethoscope. Ok. Well, believe it or not, 'ALL' is probably better than one. How many miles were on those plugs and what were they? It might be that the fouling problem is just age induced. But it bothers me you're getting enough oil into the cylinders to oil foul ANY plug. That leads me to believe you have an oil control problem - rings/stem seals. Check this. Does it visibly smoke at all? If so, is it constant? Does it only do it when you take your foot off the gas pedal? The former is rings. The latter is stem seals. It'd also be a good idea to have a compression test run on the engine. It may be its just age and getting time for a general rebuild. 'Running good' doesn't' really mean anything apparently. My 3.0L had one cylinder with no compression and it ran like a top and passed emissions better than my other two stock Sports. I've had problems with 'engine flush' stuff. If the engine is dirty, that stuff can loosen up debris that will then clog the lifter/follower bleed hole(s) which will create a tick. Use the stethoscope technique. If its the timing stuff you'll be able to tell because when you put the end near the noise it'll get loud. That's the only way you're going to really figure out where this noise is coming from and it'll save you from tearing working stuff apart. Never had any of the timing stuff 'tick'. 'wrrrrr', and rumble yes. BTW, the ticking going away at speed but returning at idle of low RPM is a common occurrence. Low oil pressure can cause that, but a lot of the time it's air or clogged/stuck follower. Edward

I figured out the noise, it's definitely the lifters. How many lifters are there? looks like I will be doing a lifter and valve stem seal job.

Those things are God awful expensive, too. Before you tear it apart, try running a can of MOA and follow the FSM technique for bleeding the air out. Edward

My monty magically stopped knocking/ticking yesterday after a 20min drive on the interstate. I was very surprised, I guess it was a delayed Christmas present lol. Now the truck sounds like brand new and is quiet as a mouse even when I started it this morning.

I swear this persistent tick thing of Mitsu's is the biggest PITA. I think 98% of the problems are just air. I had a set of lifters about '90/'91 in my 'Bird that would do this. Finicky as hell and really hard to bleed. I'd get them all bled and they'd be fine for a week until I pulled a hard corner and sucked a little air and then I was right back where I started. Sometimes they'd pass the air and sometimes not and I'd have to spend hours screwing with them. Sigh. Stuff will make you crazy. Edward

Mine tick in the morning for about a minute and then they're fine for the rest of the day. Yep. Like my '03. But, sometimes they do, and sometimes they don't. Doesn't appear to be any ryme or reason about whether they do or not. Crazy. Edward
