So when I polished my headlights and reinstalled, my low beam failed. High still worked. Yes I used gloves. I was having is hard tome getting the bulb to release from the wiring. Made me wonder if I had a wiring issue as the bulb was working fine before. I went to the cab and turned on the lighy. I wobbled the wired around, but no difference. Then I looked at the bulb to see if I could see it was bad. Oddly enough the coils inside were both intact. Figured I would see a disconnect if the bulb blew. So I just flicked it gently and it came on. Wtf? I turned it off and installed it and it still worked. The spouse took it to work and it died again at some point.
Made me think of the civics bulbs... they seem to go out all the time. Like every other oil change I'm changing another stupid bulb. In fact we have the passenger side low beam out now. However we hit a hard enough bump and it comes back on. I wiggle wiring and it makes no difference. Flick the bulb it comes on.
What is going on. Is it just cheap bulbs? I'm so over the dang bulbs. Makes me miss the old sealed beams that lasted forever. Lol!
So I'm gonna change the dang bulb, but what is the trick to get the wiring to release? I tried to push the tab, but it seems to not do anything. Do I need to pry the plastic gently with a screwdriver? I was trying to get a screw driver in there but that stupid plastic screw in piece is so in the way....

when you say flick, you mean wiggle?.....I do push the tab and start prying it slowly with a flat tool like a screw driver usually.....I think the small nudges on the connector is sitting/locking on the bulbs connector holes a bit....when I have that kind of flaky HL issues, a spray of WD-40 helps a lot.
Also, do you have an Ollie's store nearby?.....you can get the GE Nighthawk Platinum HL bulbs for just $9.99 a pair, almost as bright as the Sylvanna Silverstar Ultras....they do have for other cars like Civics too.

I have not heard of ollies. I will search and see if I can find one.
I was checking the bulb and flicked it. Then it came on. Like the impact made it light up again.
Where do u spray the wd-40 on the clip to help it let go or on the electronics to help with lighting issues?

You spray it on the connector when you got it loosened/removed.....just wipe any excess or drippings.

Probably just a oor connection inside the bulb itself. Just replace it, they're cheap.

Exactly what I did. Hoped paying for something of better quality would give me a longer life. That and the spouse has night vision problems so i wanted bright bulbs to help. So much for that idea!
Now I know which Ollies. I have seen the store in Stockbridge. I will check them out!!!

The higher power brighter bulbs shorten the life span. Also I don't think the 00's housings have any kind of venting like some housings do so the heat builds up leading to premature failure. I was going through those silver stars like crazy when I was doing a bunch of night driving. A set lasted 6 months if I was lucky with an hour or so of driving six days a week. Also seen them burn out without actually destroying the filament. Usually caused by a tiny breach in the coil.

I had the same problem only with my rear lamps, after a detailed inspection I took a small micro file to the inside socket contacts and haven't had the issue again make sure to pull the correct fuse when cleaning the contacts on any socket.
