I was wondering if anyone knows about Cold Air Intakes on monteros.
I have a 2002 Montero ls with a 3.5.
Is there a cheap or inexpensive one for sale? or maybe some DIY plans?? I would like to put one in mine.
Is it advisable any gains??
Its stock.
Thank you all for your help/opinions.

Whether they still (if they ever did) make one I don't know. Check on Injen's site. That said, if you're looking for a pipe and filter setup then you probably want to look at a DIY setup. There are a lot of pipes available. The Montero Sport (3.0/3.5L) uses a 3" pipe so I expect the Montero does, too. A bunch of companies sell the misc pieces and hose clamps. The only thing I haven't looked at with the Montero is the MAF. On the Sports its possible to use the GT3000 FIPK kit - this gives you the K&N filter and the plate that bolts the filter to the MAF. If this works, then all you'd need to do is fab a couple simple brackets, figure out what pipe you want to use and go to it. Edward

I find the Injen kit very expensive and can't really justify spending that much for a intake system.
I pieced my cold air intake for under $100 using a Spectr Intake tube, Cone style filter, and better quality transition couplers for the intake to throttle body and intake to MAF. You will have the buy the MAF adapter for the intake filter to the MAF for any 2g DSM(Eclipse,Talon) and 7g Galant, etc MAF application.
I am planning to make a video tutorial and post it on Youtube and I will post it here.
I did notice better response and slight gain of power in the mid to high RPM range. MPG increased by 1-2mpgs depending on driving conditions.

I still prefer the FIPK kit because of the K&N filter and using a pipe from someone else. Looking at DC Sports SRI6006 Polished Short Ram Intake right now. 3" pipe works as long as it fits the space.
