Hey guys. Question about the seals on plugs. Can someone confirm direction. Should cup face up toward valve cover? The seals were like hats on tubes when I took off valve cover. Every diagram I find looks like they may have been on upside down and may be why so much oil ? All diagrams have them orientation like a little cup facing up

Hey guys. Question about the seals on plugs. Can someone confirm direction. Should cup face up toward valve cover? The seals were like hats on tubes when I took off valve cover. Every diagram I find looks like they may have been on upside down and may be why so much oil ? All diagrams have them orientation like a little cup facing up They are in fact supposed to face up like a cup or a V. The valve cover itself sits on the top and seals around the holes for the plug wires. When I did mine they only went one way. I'm unsure how someone could put them in upside down but stranger things have happened. Yes, if somehow they were put on upside down that would be a guaranteed leak for every plug I would think. bdmontero dirk jkdv8Well, I got into the job and I have to say...It has been a lot of fun to get it ripped down this far. Definitely need time and patience but overall its pretty fair job. So I pulled out the plugs from Cylinder 2, 4, & 6 and they are all full of oil. The seals looked as if they were not lined up correctly when the last mechanic completed the work and it looks like the seal was just not doing what it was supposed to do. I took my time and replaced the valve cover gasket and the tube seals. Letting it drain out completely from tube overnight and I might end up getting back to the job tomorrow night or maybe next weekend. I will tackle the passenger side... Question though...should I replace fuel inject seals at this time or should I just let them go and not fool with them? I bought them just to make sure I had them all...I'm thinking since I have it completely stripped down it might be best if I knock them out at the same time. Kind of fell back in love with truck after getting this far into it. View Attachment You could always try to suck as much out as you can with a turkey baster then with a long screwdriver shove a rag down in there before and after you pull the plugs. Minimizes the amount that ends up in the cylinder. As with the seals it's best to come straight down and lined up when placing the cover on the head. BD had a good idea. He uses long bolts with the heads cut off to line it up and slide it down into place. If you end up rocking it or sliding back and forth left and right you'll more than likely disturb the tube seals. As for the injector seals... Well you know what they say if it ain't broke don't fix it but if you already bought them I don't see what harm it would do.

What size are the 10mm valve cover bolts? I robbed one from passenger side to get driver side complete. I don't mind taking it in to store to match but figured I would ask
I can't find the bugger under car or up on frame rail. Don't know where it dropped to
Lenght and thread pitch?

Lol I did the same thing. Looked for about an hour. A couple months later I was checking my shocks and found inside the front frame rail. Lol

I know its going to pop up sooner or later. So far the plug/wire change is going well. Its hard working a full time job and having a 1.5 year old fighting for time.

I hear you, full time job building $750,000 vehicles for Volvo and I never seem to get time to work on mine. Between the 17 year old trying to graduate school and start college half a year early, the active 3 year old, the up all night 5 month old, and a back log of computers I work on for extra cash, I havce parts to work on my vehicle, but no time to get the stuff done. I feel your pain LOL

Finally got to working on the Monty and I am amazed I didn't have more problems with how much oil was in each of the spark plug tubes. Amazing Could Mitsubishi have made it any harder to get to some of the bolts. Lol Now I just have to put it all back together and hope all the Misfire is gone.

BOOOYAH....she is running better than the day I inherited "Bertha" when I married my wife.
Easier to put back to together and it would be so much easier to do it over again knowing what I know now.
Very happy with the results!
