How do I remove the transfer case from my girlfriends truck? It's a 2003 montero sport and is making loud ratcheting noise under load. Worse when in 4wheel drive and tight turns. I believe it's a transfer case issue. Believe uts the chain that connects front and rear drive. I'd appreciate any help available. Thank you

Thank you First, get a set of factory service manuals. Then get a transmission jack. Then, put it on a lift or jack up both ends and put two pair of jack stand underneath. Do this on a stable, flat surface, obviously. Then follow the instructions in the FSMs. Figure on a full weekend. BTW, the Mitsu t-case is HEAVY. The AWD t-case is REALLY heavy. Something like 130 lbs. Not something you want to pull by hand - or drop on your head. But, besides all that, are you SURE its not stuck half in 2WD and 4WD? It also sounds like what happens if the front axle isn't engaging completely - or staying engaged. Neither problems require removing the t-case to fix. Edward
